"Bonvoy" Stylization

Anyone know why Marriott Bonvy is stylized with “"? (Hope it’s not “because they can” ;).)

(Mods, I could not find a “Sticky [MARRIOTT NEWBIE LOUNGE] Ask Your Questions Here (flame/snark free)” thread. Sorry if this post belongs elsewhere.)

° means sun, _ below it means land. And the orange kind of handwritten "m with ° " below the logo means "path to the end". That path is not always straightforward and up and down.

To be honest it was an absolutely garbage rebrand.

Representative of the company's leadership and their cluelessness.

Slightly more serious answer - From a video on the website of what looks like the design agency that did the logo (though their website's image loading seems to crash my tab, go figure), https://www.motherdesign.com/work/ma...international/ - it seems like the dot and line imagery is supposed to evoke a city on a airline or train route map. (But I guess in a deconstructed way in the logo?)

To me, it represents the porthole on a passenger ship. Because when a ship sails, you say Bon Voyage!

Of course, I have no idea what that has to do with hotel rooms, but I always thought it was a porthole. The stylized M being the waves. (even more confusing).

I like the Bonvoy logo and name - "Bon Voyage to the monotony of not traveling, and hello to comfort and new sites!"

It's far better than the ever-ironic World of Hyatt since Hyatt's footprint across said world is quite lacking in many parts of said world.

At first I thought it was a zero, or a Degrees sign, like for temperature. After a few years I've decided it's the former

The agency’s description on that link says it’s a horizon inspired logo, but the rest of the description makes me wanna toss my cookies:

The horizon-inspired logo becomes a dynamic nucleus of the brand, informing a variety of gestures that make connections, highlight information, and encourage movement. Those unique motion components and a carefully crafted sonic identity round out the full scope of a simple yet robust brand that will engage with a huge number of hotels, partners, people, and cultures worldwide.

When Marriott Bonvy was introduced in mid 2018 to replace Marriott Rewards and coinciding with the acquisition of Starwood, I also used the degree symbol (°) for almost a year :o , until discovering the slightly larger and lower symbol (∘). For ready comparison: (° ∘).

The zero exponent (º), normally used to modify the antecedent number to the 0 power, which equals 1, is also too far above the top of the other letters, and is not the correct purely circular shape. (° ∘ º)

That is why I put the letters in boldface, to match the proportions as closely as possible to the Bonvoy logo.

In one area, the attempt to replicate the logo with FlyerTalk characters falls "short" -- the underline. ;)

In the logo, the underline below the "o" is elevated, whereas using the [ u] function is the same for all characters, at the very bottom. I wonder if the strikethrough would work better?

Bonvyed again? Yes, it appears, though the latter would work with the degree symbol.

Capitalization

Of course, if striving to be as faithful to the brand logo as possible, perchance we should be capitalizing all the other letters.

BONVY!

BONV°Y!

Yet the practice throughout this forum has not been to capitalize each letter of "Bonvoy" in thread titles or sentences, so such "logo capitalization" might best be reserved for special emphasis. Or maybe not.
