Issues purchasing points?
Hello everybody,
Have anyone of you had issues with purchasing points due to Credit Card rejection by Marriott website? I wanted to use the 25% off promotion and buy points as I did not purchase any so far this year. I have tried to do it with 3 different cards from 3 different banks and each time the transactiom is denied and my credit cards blocked due to the security reasons. Marriott insists this is the problem from my bank and the bank insists this is the problem of Marriott. I use all the 3 credit cards to do other transactions without any problem and NONE is denied/bloqued by any other page. I asked for possibility of purchase points with Ambassador team on the phone but they said they can not apply the promotion if we do it this way. Anybody had similiar situation? Marriott pulls me all the time back that this is my banks problem but I find it highly improbable that 3 different cards from 3 different banks are not right... All banks told me that the rejection is from Marriott side.. Thank you for any suggestions on how to deal with it. |
Are you using a credit card issued in the US? I know a lot of European cards have issues when buying stuff online. A lot of issuers require verified by visa or masterpass or AMEX key to make purchases online.

I would suspect that the OP's cards are set up to require verification which Marriott doesn't do. Thereby allowing Marriott and the banks to blame each other... Sometimes you can get around this with fintech apps that issue a single-use credit card number for online spending... |

IIRC Marriott doesn't pause to do the card verification process (App, text message, whatever) on points purchases.

No, unfortunately European cards, but they are global company so I do not understand why this may be a blocking point...

Thank you. However, almost all cards issued in Europe requires verification steps. Marriott shall adapt. This is just crazy...

You may want to call points.com not Marriott, since they are the ones selling you the points
