So my technical return on a $75.77 stay is $27.79 (3321 MR @ 0.7cpp + 227UR @ 2.0cpp) or 36%!
No, your technical return is negative, and, in fact, massively so.

Spending $75.77 to receive $27.79 is a negative return on investment.

You are losing $47.98 on every one of those stays. Your ROI is -63.3%

But the $75.77 is a sunk cost, since he is staying in this hotel anyway.

He got a rebate of 27.79 on that expense

Based on my read of that post, the $75.77 is not a sunk cost. That post referenced mattress running which, by definition, is not activity one has to do anyway:

I live full time in hotels, so Schnit is correct.

Alternatively, if I stayed in the equally-priced Radisson Blu next door, I would have a -94% ROI (3% UR at 2.0cpp)! Might as well live under a bridge at that point, then I would have a positive ROI!

The person is listed as Titanium in their bio, so I assumed trying to get titanium rather than platinum

For those of you also have 2 stays in different brands, how is the 2K pts show up after the 2nd brand which is the 2nd stay?

I have 2 stays each for a different brand finished last week. The 2nd stay posted the night credit, earned points, bonus points are a total of the 2K and elite welcome points. No additional 2K for different brand shows up.

Then I read the different brands promotion again, noticed that is only for Marriott credit card holder - but I hold both the AMEX and Chase cards, with the AMEX card in account profile... But the stays were paid with Marriott gift cards obtained from pre-Pandemic time. May be only payment made with Marriott credit card would earn the different brand bonus? But the language is completely unclear, actually not mentioned such requirement.

I did not even remember I have added the 20% statement credit offer from AMEX long time ago. The property put a $1 deposit charge to the AMEX card causing AMEX to sent "Offer Used" alert. I then realized there was actually an AMEX offer. Since it took great effort for the property to use gift card, I dont want to switch back. Nor I believe the property knows how to reverse the charge put on gift card!

In any case I was a bit obsessed in getting rid of those gift cards which I am not lucky to have easy time using them. They are really Sunk Cost to me.

The brand bonus doesn't show up until the end of the promotion

Just to note that the actual wording is "be awarded to the member’s account up to 6 weeks after the promotion ends"

If things run true to form, this means "we've given ourselves a big window to stall you with "you need to wait up to 6 weeks for your points" while we figure out how to correct the inevitable points-posting problems that always seem to arise on our promotions"

2022 Promo

Does the current promo of 2,000 Bonus points per brand apply to single night stays or only to 2+ nights at each hotel?

How are these posting - I've just had my second brand, as a credit card holder, but the 2,000 have not posted for the brand. The 2,000 for the second stay has posted within the stay.

I wonder if Marriott has screwed up the IT for non-US credit card holders. (or if there is some really tiny print in there that we missed...)

Threads merged. Your answer is now a few posts upthread.

Marriott has quite a history of aggravating their customers and causing unnecessary extra work for themselves by launching promotions with over-complex posting arrangements and imprecise T&Cs.

I do not think it’s complicated to work out why the brand bonuses for credit card holders will post after the promo is finished.

The 2000 points per stay is a universal bonus for everyone so it is easy to programme when each stay posts for everyone.

The brand bonus is for a subset of members that requires validation to determine eligibility and a more complex algorithm to determine how many individual brands the eligible guests stayed at during the period. Far easier to programme this as a one-off batch process “up to six weeks” after the promo ends.
