Late check out is no longer guarantee?
I just did an online check in on the mobile apps, and notice it says late check out is on priority/request. The mobile apps look new to me or may be I never pay attention.
Is this stupid mistake or a sign of something worying to come (i.e. the 4pm guaratee late check out will be scrapped)?

they've had it like that for a long time already and I had made issues out of it before on this forum.
I don't think they'll take away the guaranteed late checkout benefit for elites anytime soon,,, but i've noticed that often Marriott makes these messages vague on apps/websites,, potentially in the hopes that some elites, who are less familiar with program T&Cs, will take that to be the rule and accept being denied a late checkout.
to be fair, it's not only Marriott that plays with words like this...

Either the hotel does not get proper training or they have been told late check out is not guaranteed by Marriott.
Of course I have no issue with late check out and I don't think I will have issue with this particular hotel as I have stayed at this hotel maybe 20 times.

Well, someone mentioned that he (Titanium) was denied 4pm Late check out at Marriott Batam. This is one of the newest property and this is very worrying.

Personally I've only been denied late checkout once that I can recall in at least the past five years (at Essex House during the height of the pandemic).

You'll be able to tell if the property (and Marriott) see itself as late-checkout-exempt if the late checkout option doesn't show up in Mobile Check-In. Normally, there's a drop-down time slider, but resorts (and classified convention properties) won't show it.
Of course, that doesn't mean that you can't work with that property to obtain your desired checkout time. I've gotten plenty of 4 PMs at resorts before.
I've been denied plenty of times but always at an exempt property or in exchange for a desired full suite upgrade, which I'm happy to negotiate on. Even when denied, I can usually get 1 PM or 2 PM which can make a big difference.

I was staying at the JW in Dubai and the front desk told me the latest they could do for me for a late checkout was 2:00 PM but that they could keep my room keys activated for the lounge (my flight didn’t leave until 1 or 2 AM.) While I was up in the lounge, I happened to mention this to one of the charming hostesses who immediately responded that I shouldn’t have gone to the front desk, I should have come straight to her. A quick phone call, some typing on her computer and I had my suite until 8:00 PM (and I felt really guilty because housekeeping had already turned it). I know a lot of people aren’t impressed with that hotel, but the staff is fantastic beyond belief, I found the lounge to be great, the pool was good, and the Thai restaurant… well, I’ve had better Thai food, but then I was feeling a bit under the weather on my trip there. I’d definitely stay there again!

Fair enough, but anyone who's been staying at Marriott properties the last few years should have seen this or similar language in the app (and in emails) many times. Half the time, the reservation and welcome emails don't even reference late checkout as one of my benefits.

TBH, with the different rules in many of the 30 brands, in different regions, even as an Ambassador elite, I have a hard time remembering various program terms. I couldn't necessarily quote you the correct welcome options for all 30 brands in all regions...it's very complicated.
