bringing some positive feedback
Bring some positive feedback.
I am 22 years platinum with Marriott and 12 years Diamond with a Hilton. Looking back after some years I want to give a compliment to Marriott. Some of my experiences: 1. Breakfast for elites: Marriott is listening to their customers and Hilton goes 100 percent to their voucher Breakfast. 2. The app from Marriott had more opportunities. From upgrades till more info as member. 3. Lifetime membership.By Marriott you can daily see how many nights you need. 4. Breakfast and Elite members recognition. As Marriott elite member is always recognized. As Hilton Diamond member nobody cares in the USA. 5. Suites upgrades are taking care with Marriott. By Hilton is not working. 6. Uber and Marriott. Great deal 7.Marriott Elite in Europe and Asian will make you a very VIP member. 8. The Marriott experiences are great. From concerts to soccer games in the UK. So after 22 years I am still a loyal Marriott member. (Greetings from Europe) |

I get full breakfasts at Hilton. Suite upgrades most of the time.
Not so much at Marriott. Of course I’m talking about Asia for both of these. If you are only talking about one country, or continent, then you should note it in your subject line. USA is not a great place for most hotel elite programs. |

By Marriott you can daily see how many nights you need. As bad as we know Marriott Bonv∘y information technology (IT) to be, Hilton Honors is even worse! Hilton IT still cannot manage to put one's lifetime total nights stayed in its guests' online accounts. :td: After being Honored a few times at 14:00, I really appreciate the Bonv∘y Platinum 16:00 checkout. |
After all these years Hilton.com looks and works like it was made by an 11 year old kid. Their site still prompts me to tick boxes to accept cookies, what is this crap? Could be due to I'm located in Europe now but still? All you need is one accept button and not several before you can accept the site handles cookies.
Marriott IT is far from perfect but they get the basic things right. Usually. Marriott's app and site runs and looks good as well. |

What "full breakfasts" do you get at Hilton, and how/why?
Check my recent Hilton reports. It all depends where you are staying. Many US properties give you a meager credit that barely covers anything. Expand your horizon, and stay in countries that still deliver on amenities. Open lounges, afternoon tea, daily room cleaning. |

I get a full hot buffet breakfast for all guests staying with me. The chef’s will often offer to make me other things. I had a whole fresh cooked pizza and pasta for breakfast on my last stay.

To give credit where credit is due: I've had lurkers help me many times over the years, sometimes in big ways. Marriott (particularly its franchisees) have had frustrating issues from product to points earning and given me endless headache, but the lurkers have consistently been a bright spot. A shoutout to them, as it is probably tough to read these forums sometimes!

Likewise I’ve had a good run with Marriott.
I’ve been fortunate to stay in hotels and rooms that 99% of the public would die for. 100% agree on the vip treatment in Asia. But I’ve also had good stays at Hilton but in my heavy travel days Marriott has the best properties in the locations I was based. There have been the few hiccups along the way but Marriott definitely has my loyalty. |
Most frequent posters on FlyerTalk probably already know (and are annoyed by) my frequent positive support and experiences with Marriott. I will always have a positive mental association with the Marriott and former Starwood brands that I grew up and grew to love travel in.
Still today, I have plenty of very positive stays in Marriott's portfolio of 30 brands :-) |

Still today, I have plenty of very positive stays in Marriott's portfolio of 30 brands :-) Not perfect and if I stayed majority of nights in a FFI or CY probably have different outlook. But the free breakfast and the decent amount of upgrades has been good. When I first started traveling never in a million years did I think I’d earn a lifetime status or learn the details of hotel ops like I have….. The rewards program has gotten me and my wife into some amazing properties and rooms. Many of us forget the good and point out the bad. One or the most memorable nights was in China in hotel I lived I got to work a shift in the kitchen. Fun as hell and made me appreciate the speed and efficiency of the real chefs and prep cooks. Also learned how to dice an onion super fast. |
