Moxy Utrecht, Netherlands [Master Thread]
I did not see a dedicated thread for this hotel so I decided to start a new one.
I have stayed in Moxy Utrecht for 4 nights during the second week of July 2022 because of some business in Utrecht Science Park. The hotel is next to the Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn train station. When arriving from Amsterdam, you can switch trains at Utrecht Central and Vaartsche Rijn will be the next stop. Even so it is next to the station, the hotel is on the canal. Thus, you can have a drink or a breakfast at a table outside facing the canal. This was my first stay at Moxy but there were no other Marriott properties at Utrecht. The location is OK in terms of access to transportation but it is ca. 25-35 min walk from the central areas of Utrecht. Upon check in, my Titanium status was acknowledges but not upgrades were available. Thus, I was given a queen room with a canal view. Room was small but clean. It is really a space saving design with a minimalist bathroom (walk-in shower, very small sink) and a metal grid on the wall with a few hangers. No closets for the bags and no working table but just a seat next to a bed. No safe and no tea kettle. Overall, the room was only marginally better than some newer Holiday Inn Express in Italy. Upon check in I was offered 500 bonus points or 10 Euro/day credit. I have asked for breakfast and got that instead of other offerings The breakfast consisted of the same two hot dishes every day: scrambled eggs (made from powder and inexcusably dry) and cocked beacon, which was OK for the Netherlands. You can also get some boiled eggs, pastries backed a day before somewhere else, cereal, two types of yogurt, low quality cheese + cold cuts, and apples and oranges. There was a station with Absolut vodka and some tomato juice in bottles but I did not explore that as I had some business to attend to. They have one Franke coffee machine - the same kind as you find in AA Admirals Clubs in US. Water and juice were coming from the same dispenser. The nice touch was to have a table with tasty baby tomatoes, fresh arugula, shaved Parmesan , and olive oil. I am partial to fresh arugula so it saved my breakfast every day. The lobby was decorated to appeal to the young crowd and breakfast items were scattered around and not obvious to find. The stay was OK as I paid about 100 Euro a night. |
Looks like there was a stabbing here last night, they don't name the hotel, but as this is the only hotel on that street must be the Moxy.

Had a good stay here and would recommend it when visiting Utrecht.
Pros: - Got upgraded to Family Sleeper, frontdesk did mention they don't have many of these rooms available so upgrades are usually rare - In addition to the 500 points & F&B credit, I was also offered free breakfast for both people as a welcome gift - Spacious lobby area with lots of local references (Mondriaan, Nijntje (Miffy), bikes) - 4pm checkout no issue Cons: - Breakfast was just OK. In line with other Moxy's I've been to, but when it's busy the items are not restocked very quickly resulting in empty areas - Room has coffee machine and kettle, but my room did not have any tea bags and had to get some from the lobby https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...187fb61d51.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e4570532f6.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9cffe1a71c.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...47943f1652.jpg |
