Two Simultaneous Reservations and Elite Night Credits
 

I have a cash rate booked using the Marriott BRG which got me a great price. It is a 3 day reservation. I cannot make any changes to the reservation or I lose the price that I was given. On the 3rd night of the stay, I actually want to stay at a hotel ~30 minutes away and book using points. I plan on just leaving after the 2nd day and checking into the new hotel. I know I will not receive elite night credits for both stays on the 3rd night but will this mess up the double elite nights that I should earn on the cash rate?

What time are you planning to leave the first hotel? Is it a place where you must check out in person at the desk, or can you just take your stuff and leave?

BTW, there have been reports here that when someone is booked into two different Bonvoy hotels for the same night, credit is given for the booking that posts first.

I was planning to leave the first hotel in the late afternoon on the 2nd night. I wasn't going to formally check out but just leave and assume they will check me out after the 3rd night. What I am worried about is my points booking elite night credit taking precedent over the cash booking which would give me double nights with the current promotion.

Hotels can change your dates without affecting the BRG rate. Just contact them directly.

Or the OP can notify hotel 1 upon arrival/check in that he'll be checking out early if he's that concerned about having overlapping stays.

Wait really? Is there any way to confirm this prior to having the hotel push it through? It is a spring break booking so if I lose the reservation, the rates are 3x what I paid.

All I have is anecdotal evidence. I’ve never lengthened a stay but I certainly have shortened one by contacting the hotel directly. I’ve never had a problem.

Don't touch the BRG booking. It can only be screwed up...

Personally I would try to stay at a different chain for the 3rd night. If your BRG stays posts AFTER the award stay - quite common with so many stays not posting properly - then it could be a nightmare to fix and get the double night credit / 1,000 point bonus.

As an update, I called the hotel and spoke to the front desk who directed me to the manager. She was able to shorten my stay without compromising on the BRG price. I think they were happy to do so given how they are sold out for that weekend and can list the room at 3x what I paid.
