March 29th. Surprised Ritz Maldives, St Regis Maldives, and Al Maha weren't on the 30k points per night increase.

Bloggers are saying this will happen 29th March. Any updates from Marriott? Don’t see anything yet.

Here's the list of the hotels. Some are very random but looks like a pretty big devaluation:

I'm a bit confused by what this means.

If a hotel is not on the list, does that mean the points required wont be changing at all for 2022?

ex: I want to do a stay at the JW Marriott Muskoka, a category 6 - which is 50,000 points typically (sometimes 40,000) - as long as points rooms are available the rate wont exceed 50,000 this year? Is that how to read the impact of the changes?

If the hotel is not on the list, they will continue to price within the off-peak to peak band through the end of 2022. However, it does not stop them from charging the peak price for every night this year.

The only change for the other properties is that the price can vary every day between the low and high bands within their category. In some ways this could be a benefit as if a hotel needs to fill rooms, they can lower the rate until they fill those rooms. Now if they set the rate as high they are stuck with that for the whole month.

Under the current program, they can (and do) set hi/mid/low on a daily basis.

More Redemption Flexibility Begins Soon with Marriott Bonvoy

Starting March 29, our new flexible point redemption rates will go into effect. That means free nights will align more closely with nightly rates and availability. For stay dates in 2022, you can expect that nearly all of our hotels will have the same minimum and maximum number of points required for redemption — similarly to how they were previously categorized.

All the ways you earn points will not change — you’ll just have more flexibility when you’re ready to redeem.

Plus, starting at the end of April, you can combine your Free Night Award with up to 15,000 points to access more hotels you’ll love.

Our current redemption process will remain in place through March 28. After that, you will not see hotel categories (1–8) or redemption rates classified as Off-Peak, Standard, or Peak. At the same time, as part of our yearly redemption assessment process (similar to our annual category changes in previous years), the minimum point redemption rates will increase for approximately 200 hotels on March 29 — that’s less than 3% of all hotels. You can explore this list of hotels and decide when and where to maximize your free nights.

With our flexible cancellation policy, you can reserve your redemption stay and still modify your reservation if you find a lower rate in the future.

Want to learn more? Check out all our flexible point redemption rates FAQs.

Um, so where is the list of hotels that are decreasing their point redemption rate?

schriste Feb 25, 2022 8:49 am

When 2023 rolls around I wonder if there will essentially be a single value for a Marriott point (e.g., nightly rate $150 = 30,000 points, $300 = 60,000, etc.)? Or if, for whatever reason, properties can assign whatever value they want.
