Moxy - Lyon Aeroport - LYS [Master Thread]

This hotel has been open for about a year or so, but although I fly out of LYS often, I've never stayed here under the Moxy brand. For years it was a Sofitel and I stayed here often up until it closed, around 2009 if I recall correctly. The airport authority said they were going to take over the hotel and convert it into offices. But I guess that never happened. The hotel is inside Terminal 2, about a 5 minute stroll to the check in areas and baggage claim. If you are flying out of T1, it is a much longer walk. I guess over 10 minutes. However this hotel is close to the moving walkways that will take you to the train station and the tram that goes into Lyon. And its close to most of the airport parking lots.

I had a one night stay recently before a morning flight. The elevators are the same as they were under Sofitel, and I guess the room sizes are the same. But the lobby is totally changed as is the overall style of the hotel. I don't think I've seen a hotel in France with this kind of modern take on LA noir style. Lots of old Hollywood photos and replicas of old style rotary dial telephones. Even the room telephone had that look, although there were push buttons where the dial numbers go.

My Titanium upgrade from a base room was only to a base room with runway and mountain views. Neither of which are visible in the winter in these parts. But the room was comfortable and of course the furnishings are all new and modern. I was offered a 10 Euro bar credit or the points. As a nice pint of Affligem was only 8 bucks, I took the points and bought my beer to take up to the room. I paired it with a sandwich I got at Part Dieu because these days the food outlets at the airport are all closed by 8pm. There is a decent restaurant right by the hotel, one level up from the airport level. But it is currently closed due to COVID. The hotel has its own food offerings, but they didn't look that great and they were about to close that too. I asked about breakfast at check in, but they said Moxy doesn't do that. ??

My rate was well under a hundred bucks thanks to COVID I'm sure. I will gladly stay here again under those rates. But I might guess that Marriott will be expecting more than double that price once business comes back.

According to TPG (Jan 2022), they should offer breakfast or FB credit but that may have been what they meant to offer you at checkin:

Are you staying at a Four Points, Aloft, Protea, AC or Moxy property?

  • YES: You’ll be able to select a complimentary breakfast or a daily food and beverage credit as your welcome amenity.
