"Sustainability Fee" - a new name for resort fee???

Getting back on the road for work next week and saw this show up in the reservation. Stayed at the hotel frequently in the past and they never had any noticeable green features. Will be curious to see if they even mention this or if it's just another money grab like the resort fee but with a name they assume will make you less likely to complain. Autograph Collection.

The hotel should just change the name to : Moneygrabbing fee

At least show the hotel is a honest bunch.

What hotel is it?

It's a fee to sustain this crappy practice.

When I staid at the Westin in Milwaukee they had this fee. I believe it's enforced by the city or state.

Here's a similar report -

I'm not finding this garbage fee at other Milwaukee WI hotels. Another bonvOY race to the bottom.

Not Marriott specific but I did find this related to "sustainability fees": https://www.sktpetri.com/wp-content/...ay-with-us.pdf

Absolutely not mandated or enforced by the city of Milwaukee or the State of Wisconsin. This is more Bonvoy, probably trying to claim that they are buying carbon offsets with it.

oh please… you think the fee would not be there if it wasn’t Bonvoy? Think again.

So what exactly is the fee supposed to "sustain"? Employment of its staff? Compensation for environmental destruction caused by the hotel stay?

Please tell us which property. Also, the numbers don't add up correctly. They are off by 1 cent.

Please ask hotel what is included in this fee and why it’s charged .

Considering I'm not aware of any other hotels in MKE or anywhere else in WI charging this fee, yes I think the fee would not be there if it wasn't Bonvoy. I've stayed in numerous other hotels in MKE city, MKE county and the state of WI and never been charged a "sustainability fee." I also don't stay at Bonvoy hotels on my own dime. So either Hilton and Hyatt are eating the cost of this "fee," or Bonvoy wants to look cheaper on OTAs by having a room rate that is $15 less per night. Which of those is more likely?

A quick look around Autograph Collection hotels finds that the Hotel Saint Louis is charging $4.99 'Sustainability Fee' per night.

Which is not referenced on the first booking page. Wouldn't this be a violation of their settlement with the Pennsylvania AG?
