I must say, I continue to be surprised that posters here continued to be surprised when Marriott properties do things like this.

Honestly, this type of behavior seems very "on brand" for Marriott Bonvoy anymore. Not sure why there is always so much mock shock required when these examples surface...

Regards

Yup. Marriott has exactly as much control over their franchises as Ashraf Ghani did over his "military".

What if the fee exists to sustain this discussion?

At the risk of potentially going down a rabbit hole, is it possible that the box is checked by default in the UK/EU but not in NA?

Can anyone with access to a country-changing VPN verify?

There’s a thread on this subject if someone feels like reviewing it.

Marriott now shows upfront the all-in price, including Resort Fees

That's one of the undocumented benefits sustained by the fee. It's quite costly to sustain the sustainability fee plus all of the resulting sutainable sustainability fee benefits.

Objection. Assuming facts not in evidence.

Sustained!

Greed & Grab Fee may be a more appropriate term?

What about the revolutionary idea to just include the fees in the room rate...like it is in many countries outside the US....

Hotels are not stupid.

1) They don’t have to pay a commission on the scam fees to 3rd party companies like Expedia.
2) They can collect the scam fee from guests on award bookings.
3) They don’t give points on the spend from the scam fee.

Genius!

Maybe I should buy a hotel, then charge as follows:

Base rate : $50
Sustainability fee : $20
Housekeeping fee $10
Air Conditioning fee $10
Electricity surcharge $10
Water surcharge $10
Amenity surcharge $10 (1 time refill, extra amenity will be charged accordingly)
Maintenance fee $10
Laundry surcharge $10

From $50 rate magically grow to $140 revenue!
Marriott should hire me!
