Best way to dispute a charge? (Phoenician hotel)
Background: I stayed at the Phoenician from 12/27/21- 12/30/2021, on the 30th I received my bill via email and within the app, with the correct charges. 4 days later i received a random additional billing of $407. I left the hotel room in perfect condition and did not bill any additional items to the room. Should i contact the hotel directly or contact marriot? TIA

Agreed, as you need to determine what the bogus charge is for before any further dispute, such as the minibar you didn't touch to the bathrobes you didn't steal. (Don't get me going on that last one ... )

Since this is a large hotel, you should contact their accounting office during the business day.
As others have suggested, start by asking what the charge is. $407 is an odd amount, so it's unlikely to be a charge for smoking or a pet and it also seems too much for one or two bathrobes. It's also a lot for someone who cleaned out the minibar. My guess is that someone charged a restaurant dinner to your room.

Plan B
While I generally agree it is best to contact the property first, I ended up getting a better response from Marriott Bonvoy Champion.
I opened a case. The GM closed the case. After several more bouts of this, the folks at Marriott stepped up and did the right thing.
I guess my point is you really have two options.......................
