Could you elaborate? Is there a list of "eat around town" participants? Do we need to activate our cards? Is the offer good on both Chase and AMEX cards?

Yes, on the Eat Around Town website you can search by city or Zip Code: https://eataroundtown.marriott.com/

On the Eat Around Town website, there's a "sign in/join now" button. You'll sign in to your Marriott account, then you can enter any credit card you like, Marriott branded or not. The idea seems to be that if you use that credit card to dine at any of the participating restaurants, you'll get the bonus points automatically.

I scanned the restaurant list for my area. It looks like this is just Marriott's front end into Rewards Network. Currently I am collecting Southwest points for my dining. In general I have found restaurant participation in Rewards Network to be fairly limited both in my hometown and on the road. So I look at it as a pleasant surprise when I happen to wind up dining at a Rewards Network participating restaurant and get points. Perhaps it is better in other areas.

Exactly my thoughts. I put in my zipcode and found predominantly restaurants such as Debbie Cakes and Blaze Pizza.

Rewards Network is a shadow of its former self. They pulled out of Canada years ago plus the selection in the US seems pitiful. When I was in Waikiki a week ago, I did a quick check for nearby restaurants, and there was hardly anything to choose from and absolutely nothing of interest.
