J W Marriott coming to the Strip in 2023!

Was poking around looking for a single award night in Vegas to bridge between two stays and came across this. Can’t find any press announcements anywhere but that’s definitely the shell of the Fontainebleau in the picture. I’m surprised it’s salvageable considering how long it has been sitting.

We shall see... this hotel has missed soooooo many announced openings, under various names...

It was originally supposed to open in 2008:

oh yeah! “The Drew.” That concept obviously stayed in my memory for about as long as it took them to bring The Harmon back down to its concrete pad. 🥴

Yep, I never thought the previous owner naming a casino after his son who died of an overdose was all that tasteful a way to commemorate a loved one. Though it's not as bad as the Sheraton Maria Isabel in Mexico City, which is named for the builder's daughter, who eloped underage and died of a miscarriage.

That will be a great location for the new West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

That makes me think this could be real.

"Marriott scraps plans for former Fontainebleau on Las Vegas Strip, original operator returns."

The JW Marriott Las Vegas Blvd. project seems to be dead. Fontainebleau has returned, and they don't need Marriott. Then again, it could just be a negotiating tactic, but that's unlikely.

Thank you for posting Horace. There go my JW Marriott $49 midweek nights in December 2023 on the Las Vegas Strip.
