Buenos Aires Marriott, Argentina [Master Thread]

Anyone ever stayed at the Buenos Aires Marriott. We are taking a cruise of the BA in 2022 and looking for any reviews/opinions on this property.

A search of the forums, did not return any hits, so I thought I'd ask.

Cheers

It's a recent conversion to Marriott but should have been renovated.

Of course since Argentina has been closed to foreigners for over a year, there won't be too many FTers able to give you an opinion. Even Tripadvisor doesn't have anything recent...

This property was an IHG in a former life. FWIW here's a really old thread.

Experience at Buenos Aires Marriott

Well team,
I had to post something here... since management hasn't replied and the overall service at this property is just not geared to deal with concerns from members

Subject: Titanium guest feedback (7548XXXXX) - March 25th to 28th 2022

Hello Daniel,

I’m reaching today to outline some feedback I had at your hotel.

Firstly, I’ll say that while you have a lovely old property, the level of service from your staff is not consistent with the brand.

I asked for an upgraded suite with a Jacuzzi bathtub specifically and city view.
  • Check in experience was fine but staff member didn’t outline all the facilities, recognize my membership status or offer concierge services to help plan a trip.
  • Request for the upgraded suite was completed but a city view suite wasn’t provided. I checked online and the time of check-in … an upgraded room type was available.
  • Via the app, I asked for 5 sets of towels and for the fridge to be stocked with 5 bottles of water. This didn’t happen.
    • To get extra towels, I had to call or come down to the front desk 6 different times
  • The jacuzzi tub didn’t work and maintenance came … spent 30 secs and determined that it couldn’t be fixed and they would come the following day.
  • The main bathroom flooded and water leaked downstairs.. because of poor drainage design
  • As the water leaked into the suite downstairs…your staff kept knocking on my door until I had to yell at them to stop knocking.
The next day, I went down to meet Mr. Bossi. He seems very nice, but he is not trained to deescalate a member like myself. He promised that the shower drain would be fixed and I told him specifically to not let anyone touch the bed.
I came back up to the room… and of course the maids are stripping the bed. Remember I specifically told them not touch the bed. I was furious and dismissed the maids and Mr Bossi came to apologize but I was just angry.

By this time, I had wasted 2 hours of my Saturday morning dealing with this garbage. I eventually left because I didn’t want this to ruin my Saturday./
This experience at your hotel was so poor from the start and it could have been better but the right people were not around to fix it.

In fact, across more 1800 nights and 400 properties… this overall experience was one of 5 worst experiences in a marriott hotel. Simply not brand consistent and your staff are NOT empowered enough to resolve.
Thanks
Naparima

Is this a joke?? You asked to be upgraded to a city view suite specifically with a jacuzzi and are pissed because the upgraded suite isn't city view?

Asked for 5 set of towels and fridge to be stocked with water?? LOL

Man talk about DYKWIA  Get over yourself sweetheart, you're just a Titanium...

It is possible that no one in the Marriott organization may be so trained. But since I don't know the poster, nor everyone in the Marriott organization, I should not opine.

No kidding!

Is this a late April's fools joke or what? I have never seen such a self-entitled Titz who thinks he is so important enough to be angry and yelling at the Latina "maids" for touching the bed.

Oh, the horrors.

As a fellow Canadian, I sincerely hope this is a joke, otherwise it's quite the DYKWIA behaviour, and not in keeping with our goody two shoes rep. ;-)

Seeing as where you're from, aren't you a Canadi>n? ;)

All that said, I was really surprised when I was traveling down 9 de Julio a few weeks ago and saw the large Marriott sign. I had no idea. As for "city view," unless one is looking in a particular direction (i.e., towards Pto. Madero), a city view in Buenos Aires isn't really that attractive. But what do I know. It isn't like I have a "city view" apartment there for the past 13 or so years.

After having spent too much time in BsAs over the past two decades, I agree. View, what view? My favourite barrio has no hotels and is probably one of the tiniest enclaves in the city.

Buenos Aires Marriott Review

Overall I would overall recommend this hotel, mostly because of its location and its architecture. It does have some flaws however, mentioned further in the details. Check In The check in was friendly and swift. While our passports were scanned we were explained the details of the hotel, opening hours of the lounge, breakfast hours, etc.We had booked for three nights a standard room at a corporate rate. We received an upgraded room with a separate living room (with door). We were thanked for my Ambassador loyalty and offered 1000 points as an amenity. I do not believe any alternatives were offered.Considering the hotel has 23 floors, I was a bit surprised to get only floor 8. However, this was not really an issue,. Room The room is overall perfectly fine, but there are certainly some issues. The desk area is okay. Fortunately i do not have to work during this trip. That chair does not look comfortable. The bed is actually two beds pushed together. We were not a couple so this was not an issue. I found the bed very comfortable. I also found the air conditioning to be powerful enough to provide a cool sleeping temperature. This is the dreaded bathroom. The bathroom has a separate shower and tub, which is a plus. The shower however, liked to leak out into the bathroom, if you are not very careful. The drainage in the bathroom and the toilet flush is problematic. Every time you run any water you hear it about 20 seconds later swishing by the toilet area. And the toilet would be something a former US president could showcase for his propaganda. You really must flush it 3-5 times before the contents actually head to the porcelain great beyond. The living room was fine for relaxing. The cupboard in the corner seemed to be a former tv cabinet and was a bit dysfunctional. The mini bar was in there. The single basin was okay, but had a crack in the porcelain. I did appreciate however the outlet on the wall that accepts seemingly ever plug format known to mankind. Dining Breakfast in the main restaurant during the peak period is chaotic. Plates are not available, glasses are not available, cutlery are not available. Here they really failed. If it is busy in the restaurant, I recommend going to the lounge for breakfast. The breakdast selection in the lounge is limited, but the main restaurant does not have much more. For a Marriott I would expect more selection and an official omlette station. They did make me an omlette to ordert, but only after i complained about the runny scrambled eggs in the buffet. Location The location is quite central and convenient for sight-seeing. I am not sure how it would be considered for business travelers. Spa The hotel has a spa, gym and pool in Nivel 23 (floor 23).I have not managed to get a picture of the pool yet, but will try to add it later. The water is really warm and not refreshing. The changing room was nicely appointed. The saunaLockers. I guess keys are available at the receptionNice showers

24-27 July Visit

I quite liked this property and am glad to have another Marriott option besides the Sheraton and Park Tower. I certainly prefer this to the old Marriott Palace. Lobby is lovely and spacious. Rooms recently renovated. I got a junior suite with a great walk-in shower with two heads and excellent pressure. The gym was large and empty and the views from the adjoining pool are quite spectacular by BA terms. The location is great if you like the theater scene and don't mind the many homeless on Carlos Pellgrini (much worse than the last time I was here pre-pandemic in terms of numbers, though they seemed mostly harmless). The M Lounge was nice but nothing to write home about. I slept through breakfast so can't comment on that. but day/evening was just snacks and non-alcoholic drinks; no hot food or wine/cocktail service (I did spy some Michelob Ultra cans in the fridge one night). Staff all pleasant and professional.

I would recommend and will stay again, God-willing.

I am staying here at the moment and really love the property. The staff are very friendly and got upgraded from base to “upper suite”.

extremely comfortable bed. MClub lounge is nice and has an outdoor terrace.

its odd there isn’t any sort of cooking station at breakfast. I thought that was weak

Completed stay Jan 20th-23rd. Helpful staff and good club. The hotel is older but reasonably well maintained at least our room Received upgrade. Our only complaint is that we got back to the room at 16:30 1 day and 17:00 another day and maid service had not been completed so the room was never cleaned. The maids were on the floor and asked for new towels, soap and water so it was not a big deal but clearly management does not care that they are under staffed.
