Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge, Scotland, United Kingdom, Opened Feb21 [Master Thread]

Noting that the Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge has opened. It's about half a mile further out from the centre than the Sheraton Grand, so could well be a useful lower-cost option for Edinburgh visitors.

Of interest to some may be the " ...contemporary interiors paying homage to the site’s former Fountainbridge Brewery. The lobby features oversized beer tanks, while beer lines are located throughout the remaining public spaces."

would have been great to try under the double nights promo if only hotels were not opening until may 17

Hi,

Also there are lots of reasonable bars/restaurants and entertainment venues nearby ( at Fountain park) including a crazy golf and ten pin bowling and a genting casino and at the end of the nearby canal (ie Zizzis and a swedish style bar with food) ( hopefully all reopen after the lockdown)

It is close to my office ( have been WFH for the past year)

Regards

TBS

Hopefully it’s more of a success than the Moxy in Glasgow has been, I don’t think that one is working out, it’s been closed since last March and never seemed busy at all. Doesn’t benefit from the best of locations.

A lot of hotels haven't opened since last March - there is one right by where I stay (not a Marriott) and it hasn't opened at any point. I see the Moxy in Aberdeen is open now, and fairly sure that has only happened this year.

I believe the vast majority if not all of the moxys closed last March and didn’t reopen until late 2020

The Aberdeen Moxy wasn't showing as available when I was looking for a room near to the airport in late December, although maybe it closed over the Festive period like the Aloft did. I was originally booked in there until I got a call saying it was closing 18/12 until 4/1, so ended up in the Courtyard instead.

It was closed when I was supposed to travel to Aberdeen for work in December/January. The trip never happened but I did get to do the Shetland Isles so I’m not too upset.

The location of that hotel is very poor and on top of that the number of hotel rooms that have been added in Glasgow over the last decade has resulted in over-provision IMO.

I stayed at the Moxy Fountainbridge over the 4th of July weekend since the Sheraton Grand was 4x the asking price and I only needed a place to stay versus enjoying the spa. I was impressed with the Rooftop Bar and the choice of some Islay whiskies that they had (Laphroaig). It was adequate though a 5-10 minute walk from Haymarket but also a 15-20 minute walk to the Castle and Old Town Edinburgh so that was actually very convenient with a lot of excellent food options around.

recent experience with brekfast amenity ?

I would appreciate any FT insights about the breakfaast amenity for Plat guests ?
The wiki says it is a $10 credit for 1-2 persons:
