It's not. In the thread about the 2021 goodwill nights, the Lurker made it clear that this is a worldwide promotion available to everyone. It's still unclear (to me at least) whether all Marriott family hotels are participating or whether there will be a list of hotels that opt-out of the promotion.

Say if I’m staying two nights with one paid and one redeemed, will it eventually be counted three ENCs or four in total?

If it’s booked as one reservation, you’ll get 4 night credits. If it’s booked as two separate reservations, you’ll get 3 night credits.

I'll wait until I see data points, but I struggle to imagine Marriott IT correctly giving out 12 elite nights for a 5-night award + 1 paid night tagged on reservation, when under normal (no promo) circumstances you'd either get: 0 elite nights, 1 elite night or 5 elite nights (until you chase somebody down to fix it).

Are you able to book something like this (i.e. first night paid, second night points or free night cert) as one reservation on the website/app or do I need to call in to do that?

Yes you can do it online. Marriott’s C&P is different than SPG’s. With SPG, C&P counted as an award booking. With Marriott, it counts as a revenue booking, even though not all hotels offer it. I’ll see if I can find an example and post it here. (If anyone has already found one, please jump in.)

I’m not sure if you can combine 5 reward nights with a paid night under the C&P options.

JW Marriott Cancun
Mar 27-29
Cash rates are $256 for first night and $313 for 2nd night
Points rate is 55K/night for both nights

Marriott gives you 2 options when you check the points box:

$380 + 60K pts or
110K pts

However, there is a third option “Customize your payment”. When you click on that, you can choose to pay $256 for the first night and 55K pts for the 2nd night for a grand total of $374 + 55K pts. That would qualify as a 2 night stay and earn 4 elite night credits.

What's annoying is that the option goes away if the stay exceeds 10 nights. Was hoping to book 10 nights + 1 paid, hopefully a phone agent will be able to help.

In the past I've used the ability to split nights with some cash and some points to make 6 or 7 night stays on the same reservation (to make use of the 5th night free award, and then pay for 1 or 2 nights)

IIRC, the process is that you have search properties as if you're doing a points booking, view the rates, then click on the expandable "customize payments" box and you can choose which nights to pay points vs. cash.

To me it seems pretty generous for them to offer double ENC on reservations that have just 1 cash night - I don't recall any past promos that gave any benefits to points or partial points stays. (Hopefully the IT can do this all correctly!)
