Yep. Normally I would love it. We usually have a week in the south late February, maybe a long weekend then Easter about 20 nights.

Plus I got an email telling me I could book hotels in the UK with 25% off!! I’d love to take them up on that offer. I am still waiting for my flash sale pre paid rate money to be returned too.

Perhaps the start date was picked to lure the "big crowds" of Mardi Gras on Tuesday, 16 February 2021?

It is certainly worth ascertaining the rules of promo credit for stays straddling the beginning and end dates.

Any evidentiary data points that would support this claim other than the promo coincidentally starting on 16th aka just the second half of February?

And as a result of this you're going to Best Western? Of all chains out there? Enjoy then, I guess.
But, like everybody on FlyerTalk, I view the global actions of a multinational US-based corporate through my own local, personal lens. And my reaction is wildly out of proportion, irrational, and ultimately self-harming. I thought that was the rule here.

I actually think CNY was the main reason behind the chosen start date. Marriott has one huge market where travel is relatively free and that market's biggest travel period of the year ends on the 16th? Hardly a coincidence to me. I think the Best Western was a joke

I don't know about the Best Western but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Kidding!

When I check, if you add a paid night to a points reservation, it eliminates the free 5th night. For example, book 6 days. One night will show as free. Customize to one night paid, 5 nights on points. The free fifth night on points disappears. (Also the room rate is higher than if you are paying for it without adding points.). Hopefully someone can shed light on a fix for this? I have a nice long stay coming up and double elite nights sounds amazing.

I did notice that the room rate isn't the lowest available (i.e. the prepaid rate) if you book the 1 paid night + 5 points nights. However, I still still see the one night free when I do that same combination. Does yours not look like post #17 above?

Also, is it safe to book this now even though we can't register for it yet?

if you are booking 5 nights total with one paid night it dissappears because there is not a 5th reward night to give for free

Maybe this was already answered. I have a stay Feb. 14-19, so if the promotion starts Feb. 16 what result does that give for double-nights?

Hi, it looks like 17 except no matter what combination I use the free room disappears. I tried with 6 and 7 nights (one night paid and the rest points). No matter which night I choose to pay for, the free night goes away. Also the room rate goes up by $40 from paying for it normally. It’s weird. I wonder if I call if the plat line can manually do it. And then I guess I’d need to know if those bookings will qualify for 2X elite nights.

I'm in London and I wish I could take advantage of this offer, but we are in a hard lockdown till probably Easter (early April). Great promo, but unfortunately for anyone in the UK not possible unless we are let out of lockdown early and countries allow us to come in.

Exactly. This should have been for 6 months not 6 weeks
