Purchase Points & Points Transferred Same Bucket?
 

I can't seem to find the answer to this directly anywhere, and want to make sure of the rules before I purchase points. In one calendar year can you purchase (up to)50K points and also have 100K points transferred to your account as well? I am wanting to purchase some points to confirm a points reservation now, but in a few months will need to be able to accept a 100k points transfer from my spouse's account for a separate reservation. I want to make sure that if I purchase points now, it will not keep me from accepting the full amount of transferred points later. Can anyone clarify that these are from 2 different "buckets" and do not get pooled together?

I was able to transfer in 100K points and then purchase additional points when they had the promo on buying points last fall...

I wasn't able to do this. I waited until January 1st to transfer the 100K points my husband was sitting on as it said I had reached my max in 2019.
I am hoping for another 30% off sale in the coming months!

So I should probably not take the risk and assume if I buy any points now, that will take away from being able to accept transferred points later on. I know you can accept up to 500k points transferred from different accounts per year so that is why I was wondering if purchasing points would still allow me to receive a full 100k at the very least. Hmmm.

now I am even more confused! haha, maybe it is because I bought 100k when they offered that option?

Seems like purchasing the max prevents transferring but transferring doesn’t prevent later purchasing. But it’s Marriott IT so who knows.

These are from 2 different "buckets".
Marriott Bonvoy Members can share up to 100,000 Points per calendar year.
A Member may purchase or receive Points purchased by another Member for a combined maximum of 50,000 Points per calendar year. During some Points Purchase Discount promotions, the combined maximum may be increased to 100,000 Points during the Promotional Period only.

Thank you so much for your reply! So if I buy 50,000 points now, that should not prohibit my spouse from transferring 100,000 points to my account on a later day, as long as those points that are being transferred were not purchased points...if I am understanding correctly?

A Member may purchase or receive Points purchased by another Member for a combined maximum of 50,000 Points per calendar year.
