Four Points by Sheraton Dar Es Salaam New Africa, Tanzania [Master Thread]

Check In This was the first hotel in Tanzania that gave me platinum recognition. The manager was really friendly and went out of his way by bringing us to the room, etc. Mobile check in was possible with this property. You still had to go to the front desk to give them your passport, however. Room I loved how clean the room was. This was the cleanest of all the five Marriott properties I visited in Tanzania. No mold at all. Spotless! And I loved how cold you could make the room. Even those that love Arctic temperatues will find happiness. Of course, higher temperatures are also possible. The bed was softer than other properties, which I like. I believe it was the globally standard Four Points bed.It is possible to add another bed for a third guest. There is a 30 USD surcharge for this.Internet here worked very well. Location This property is in the city. There are no immediate beaches nearby. However, the pretty Catholic church is right next to the hotel. The ferry to Zanzibar is also within walking distance. You could also walk to the markets from here. We took an uber to one of them and walked back. It is quite hot and not always the best olifactory experience so bring water and be prepared to become a mouth breather. :) Dining The property is currently under renovation so there is currently only one restaurant open. This serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is no real bar at the moment, beyond the pool bar. You can also order food at the pool. The food here was VERY good. The chef often comes out and asks if you have any special requests. I loved that they had a good selection of international cuisine but also a big selection of Tanzanian dishes. For those who like to try new things, this restaurant is for you.At breakfast you can get made to order omlettes, pancakes, etc. As mentioned, the chef is flexible, so do not be afraid to ask for whatever you wish. Amenities The pool is in the middle of the hotel. It is outdoors. It is not heated, but that is not required in DAR, where it is always warm. The pool is big enough for swimming, but not for doing laps. I enjoyed it. There are also loungers with umbrellas. Overall it was a pleasant place to spend time.I could imagine spending time here on a long layover. I wanted to, but forgot to ask the manager if they order day rates for passengers in transit. There was also a fitness room which was rather basic but sufficient. The other amenities like the bar, casino and spa were not available due to renovation. I thought it was a bit strange that the hotel was offering packages with spa services. Ride to the top floor and the doors of the lift open to this. Overall This would be my favorite for a stay in DAR city, unless your budget cannot support it.
