My 2000th room night at a Marriott at W Amsterdam. Not the "most memorable stay ever"

The last night of my stay was my 2000th room night at a Marriott property. I had notified the hotel staff via the mobile app chat function and they told me it would be my most memorable stay ever. I don't really think my experience was up to that level. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a top-floor, jacuzzi suite. I have to say that we were not that impressed. The jacuzzi was barely big enough for one person, much less two. The room was small and cramped for a suite. I almost crashed my head into the roof supports near the bathroom sink several times. We had to get a hotel engineer to show us how to start the hot tub. There was no recognition of my 2000th night except for a generic greeting card. No champagne, chocolates, flowers, or anything similar. That's about what I expect on a routine business stay. We had issues on the second day with getting housekeeping to service our room which was never resolved that day. The gym in the property is a joke. I tried to go workout there and I had to step over other people just to get in the door. There were some bright spots. The staff in the W lounge were super nice and took good care of us. The front desk was friendly and accomodating. All in all, definitely not the "most memorable" experience in 26 years of being a Marriott elite.

The hot tub. Looks cool, but it's only 1.6 feet deep.

A nice view from the bed.

Skylights helped open up the room.

The bathroom sink. The back side is the "headboard" of the bed. The makeup light doesn't shut off on its own.

The soaking tub.

The bluetooth speaker.

The view of the room. The roof supports were only about 5.5 feet above the floor and you had to imitate Quasimodo to keep from banging your head.

Recognizing an elite customer

Here's two examples of past recognition by Marriott properties. Both times I had a very nice suite upgrade. The Laguna Niguel is one of my favorites.

From the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. Note the Diet Cokes, a rare commodity at a Marriott property.

Happy hour in our suite at the J.W. Marriott San Francisco.

Sorry about your stay! I hope I get better on my 3650 stay in 2021. :-)

I’ve stayed in this room before and basically agree with your evaluation. The fact that the jacuzzi isn’t constantly filled and running when the room is occupied was a huge fail for me, and yes it’s not really a suite at all.

I want to like the W Amsterdam, but all of the rooms I’ve tried seem to have a bad case of “W design” (I.e. being borderline unusable for various reasons). I think that you nonetheless did pretty well in conniving out an extra upgrade on the basis of an arbitrary number of nights though, so personally I wouldn’t be complaining.

Well you were entitled to nothing, you emailed the property and asked for an upgrade they gave you one, and then you trash them on a forum. Classy move...

What did you expect them to do? I am sure Marriott says there is nothing a hotel has to do out of the ordinary for your 2000th night.

Marriott "customer service" in a nutshell there

Who messages a hotel stating it’s their X numbered stay? DYKWIA?

Thought would never cross my mind.

Also was it really the 2000th butt in bed night considering the CC gives night credits?

I don't remember my 2,000th night, nor do I expect my 2,500th night to be anything special.

I'm far beyond that and no hotel has ever done anything to celebrate my <round number>th night yet, although I did have some vague hope that a Starwood where I was a frequent guest would do something for the night that got me SPG LTP.

Maybe this is why hotels hate us ? ( .... “hate” is too strong, perhaps “ view us with a deep and abiding suspicion” would be a better characterisation...)
I ‘get’ the OP’s disappointment, but really it isn’t up to the property to put on a song and dance routine to celebrate. On the other hand it would be nice if Marriott were to do something to recognise these milestones: even an email noting it, with a few bonus points ( say 10,000...). Many of us are feeling unloved and it would be a nice gesture ( ...and Preferable to cheeseboard/ bags/ amenity kits)

I got zilch from SPG during, or after, the stay that I made SPG LTP.

Hotel didn’t have to do anything for OP and went above and beyond to provide a suite upgrade. W Amsterdam isn’t my favorite hotel, but they shouldn’t be shamed for this.
