I am thinking of cancelling my W stay in favor of this for half the points.
The overwater villa at the LM is 82 sq m/882 sq* ft vs. 146 sq m/1571 sq ft at the W, so the W is nearly twice the size. A big difference is the additional patio space and that all(?) the W overwaters have their own pool.

I’m sure the overall experience would probably be better at the W, based on the positive reviews by FT. Though not sure if it’s twice as good for paying twice the points. The resort manager was previously the rooms director at W so he might have some insight. Maybe @khabah has a contact? I can’t even find a general email for the resort.

Update*: Property has updated Overwater Villa to 100sqm/1076sqft

Something similar could happen here and we could later lose access to them via points.

In fact, the beach bungalow that’s available on points vs. the beach villa, have the same rendering and room details. So maybe the LM anticipated this and made the beach bungalow a subcategory of the beach villa for awards. WA did something similar for their ocean villa subcategory of water villas.

I could totally be wrong of course, but hopefully we get more clarification once the property opens,
isn’t the beach bungalow 200 square feet smaller than the OTW Villa?

Not very educated on this one as some of you have probably dealt with in the past.

Why wouldn't the rewards / bookings be showing for February - just haven't updated the system that far or do you think they will up it by then.

Seriously looking at this hotel.........would like to grab some Aeroplan reward bookings sooner than later for this one but would feel more comfortable in having a booking finalized.
.....on another note. I understand the Maldives can be very expensive but what are the costs for alcohol at these hotels and food? I enjoy my cocktails a little bit too much when on vacation!!

I am thinking will get breakfast as Plat and then say spending $300.00 / day at the hotel for drinks whenever and dinner?..or should I be thinking significantly more than that and that is the low end. I am not worried about having steak and lobster every night.
Actually enjoy sitting at the bar/lounge and having dinner - much more casual and more to our liking.

If the property ends up being similar to the Westin, using the Westin’s menu here might be a good way to estimate. Otherwise your guess is as good as mine, hopefully the property releases their menus before opening.

Super. Thanks for sharing the Westin Menu.....I guess I didn't look hard enough but couldn't seem to find a full menu like this. Yikes...I am probably in the lower bracket here when it comes to staying in these places but just to grab a burger at $42.00 USD .....and then a couple of beer and a couple of wines. Just having a casual dinner like this will probably run at $200.00 (what about the other 10 hours of the day ! lol) - I was hoping to budget about $300.00 / day if needed. Obviously wishful thinking on my part. This is still on my list to at least to grab this when the points are right and spend the money but it still kills me to spend that much money on food and booze for 10 days. I usually don't think myself as cheap and of course always like to snag a deal but I feel cheap right now! LOL I guess if we want to visit the Maldives......

And to make matters worse, you’re not allowed to bring alcohol into the Maldives. So no stocking up at the duty free.

The property does offer half-board, full-board & all-inclusive rates.

I'm trying to make an educated guess on this one too. Perhaps the system hasn't loaded the calendar for anything past Feb 2022. Or maybe they don't want to open rooms that far out, and could possibly bump the category and prices up by then (if) travel resumes to normal.

All the bloggers are publishing this today, going to see an influx of elites during the opening date.. (If it's going on schedule to open in Sep 21)
So I pulled the trigger and booked 5 nights on points (35k/night for 140k total) in early Dec. Not sure travel will be safe later this year, you never know with this covid thing, but we'll definitely be vaccinated by then. Also don't want to lose out and see all the points rate inflate to peak tomorrow. Our strategy is if things are still bad, we can always cancel 10 nights before our stay without penalty. If we like the place, we have 2-3 40k certs left to burn, and can easily extend since 40k is peak rates anyways.

We been to the St Regis in Nov 2019, I would say $300 per day for meals is a more than enough budget if you want to include alcohol per meal. Then again, the St Regis was giving free Champagne every night at the evening ritual, so we just had more budget for food and snacks. We spent about $100-200 ish for every meal. We also didn't go crazy and order steak and lobsters every night.. lol

In the background of one of the recently posted pictures, you can see the local island Olhuvelifushi, should be in walking/wading distance...
aerial view and other construction fotos.

Looks pretty good for a 35K points property.
It is expected with this price point, but the outdoor space of the water villas looks small and the lounge chairs don't look that comfortable.
Nevertheless, very enticing at 35K points per night.
