We can confirm that the F&B discount for Marriott Bonvoy members has ended as of 30 June 2022. While the promotion has come to an end, members can still continue to earn and redeem points on their food and beverage spend at participating restaurants and bars across Asia Pacific, even without a hotel stay. With more than 900 properties, 2000 F&B venues and an array of lifestyle, finance and airline partners across the region, Marriott Bonvoy members have more ways to earn, redeem and enjoy exclusive benefits.

Just to be clear, this was not a "promotion", this was an elite benefit that Marriott has yet again cut out.

Is it, though? It's always been a property-benefit, so it was by definition a local promotion and not a chain elite benefit.

On the north pier, the difference swimming to the reef from sunrise vs sunset villas is negligible. On the sunrise side you will be overlooking the main island, on sunset side you just have the water and sky in front of you. I’m not sure if there is any additional reefs planned for the south pier, but the track to the currently main snorkeling reef from there would be basically to cross the whole island by foot (or ask and wait for a buggy).

Too bad they have removed it. One benefit of the platinum status is that meal plans are less expensive by about $20 to $25, depending on which one you are getting.

There is a flat $30 discount on all of the meal plans when selecting breakfast as your benefit.

Even if you are not platinum? So platinum isn't getting me much other than breakfast if i don't opt for the meal plans.

So the platinum discounted meal rates only apply to Platinum + 1, not the party of 4 even though we are booking 2 rooms?

Not for everyone, Platinum and above. My understanding is the F&B discount never applied to meal plans, only a la carte anyway so nothing is lost from that perspective.

Correct. And you'll only recieve Elite Night Credit for the room you stay in though you will recieve points for both. Depending on the room you booked you may recieve an upgrade as well as most elites seem to be reporting upgrades to Sunset Overwater.

On Property Now

Arrived yesterday with Ms DrPhil. I'd be happy to field any questions.

Initial impressions:

Wow! The island is impressive, bigger than I had imagined. We got upgraded to sunset OVW on the new south (east) side.

Arrival was a bit messy. We were on the first (big) arrival of the day into MLE. (A 789 on AF, followed up by two 777s within the same hour) Bus transfer from a hardstand into the terminal, customs was super quick, we just happend to be at the front of the line but everything looked to be moving quickly. LM staff weren't out yet so we had to look around a bit, but somebody eventually showed up and took us over to the sea plane check in. We hung around the airport for a while for some other pax going to LM, then took a bus over to the seaplane terminal building. We were brought to the "lounge" and waited about an hour and a half before walking down to the docks.

Something to consider: Ms DrPhil was wearing shorts on arrival at MLE and felt very uncomfortable.

Overall timeline: landed at MLE 7:15am arrived at LM at ~11AM. There were 3 more inbound seaplanes within the next 2ish hours so I imagine people wouldn't have been waiting long at MLE.

Staff is incrediblely friendly and it feels genuine. Some resorts the guest interaction feels forced and not natural, exact opposite here.

If you plan on doing really any drinking, all inclusive is the way to go IMO. 4 drinks/person/day puts you at $160/day in booze alone (that's drinks one step above "house" level, you could really run up the tab with more expensive stuff). That and dinner and you're already going to make out better with all inclusive package ($225/person/day) after elite discount.

Not at all a foodie, but the food is significantly better than mid level resort quality. The meal/drink service is definitely on "island time" though. Not necessarily a knock on the resort, just set expectations for 20min+ drinks and 1hr+ mains. We easily spent 2hrs at dinner last night (Velaa).

Not much to see snorkeling off our room, we'll try to hit the house reef today. We did see a little shark right up on the beach chasing some smaller fish around which was cool.

Fire away with the questions!

Thanks for the review! For the meal plan, is it similar to other resorts where I am paid by night? So like if I arrive early like you did, I could get lunch and dinner on the day of arrival?

It's on a per day basis, our first day wasn't prorated based on when we arrived. We did only do full board the first day (Then proceeded to go get drinks at a place that wasn't included in the full board plan 🤦 ) after the first day we stepped up to all inclusive for the rest of the stay . They allow you to switch meal plans over the course of your stay, but I believe if you are on any plan, you have to stay on a plan throughout your stay.

How is capacity right now, we are arriving Monday. How is the water down at the new end? We have flip flopped between full board and AI a hundred times!!!! Probably going to be like you and decide when we get there.
Thanks for taking the time!

Anecdotally, capacity doesn't seem that high. We run into the same handful couples and families. The water is nice on the new pier, moderate but definitely noticable current flowing from west to east.

Other observations:

Absolutely go out to the house reef if you want to see sea life. The group that went snorkeling before us said they saw manta rays.

The gym is small but nice and well equipped. New machines, a couple of full squat racks, Olympic weights etc.

The resort is very kid friendly, something to keep in mind.

Double the amount of sunscreen you plan on brining, and some aloe vera too! 🙂

Lots of walking (if you want too, we enjoy it). The resort has golf cart transportation on demand if you'd prefer to ride.
