After reading all the negative comments you might think that Marriott is charging everyone to eat at these restaurants.

I think it just automatically wipes your prior RN affiliation when you sign up for EAT with same credit cards. I used to do Shell Rewards for dining but switched to Marriott EAT because I would rather have Bonvoy points than 5 extra cents off a gallon per dine or whatever it was.

Mildly off-topic, and hopefully I don't get slammed for promoting a competing service, but I recently discovered "Seated", a dining app that gives straight cashback. Based on my initial experience:
  • It does not use the Rewards Network, so you can potentially double- or triple- dip.
  • The only cites (yet) are NYC, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, and Chicago, but within these cities there is a huge selection of restaurants - many more than Rewards Network.
  • Cashback amount vary, but are generally much more rewarding than mileage programs. I typically see 10-30% of bill before tip.

I have only dined with them a few times so far, but getting cash out (in form of Amazon giftcards) was quick and painless. If you sign up, use code MATT1504 and we both get a $15 bonus.

I am surprised that I don't see this discussed more, so I figured I would mention it here. I am not affiliated with Seated, but mods feel free to delete if this is inappropriate.

Under the "How much can I earn with Eat Around Town?" tab on the website, it states"

"If members register a Marriott Bonvoy co-brand credit card (either through Chase® or American Express®), they will earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points, plus the points earned for F&B spend under the co-brand card program. Depending on the co-brand card, this will be between 8-10 points total per dollar spent at participating restaurants."

Marriott Bonvoy Lurker III does this means between now and November 11th, we will earn 8 points per dollar spent + addition 6 points per dollar spent for having the my Marriott Bonvoy AMEX card. Totaling 14 points per dollar spent?

Hello Star_Guy,

This would be correct. Until November 11, 2019, Eat Around Town by Marriott Bonvoy members earn 8 Marriott Bonvoy points for every dollar spent at a participating location. If members register a Marriott Bonvoy co-brand credit card (either through Chase® or American Express®), they will earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points, plus the points earned for F&B spend under the co-brand card program.

Best regards,

Just to use an example. My first 'dine' with Eat Around Town' was for $42.74 on Oct 3. Luckily a place I go all the time, though mostly for lunch is a participating restaurant.

sometime before the 14th that activity showed up in Eat Around Town website activity as 341points, along with the 1k bonus. Around that date both also showed up in my Marriott activity. 341 is 8 x 42.71 (it really should be 342) so that’s the intro 8x earned up to Nov 11.

i used my Chase Marriott business card which is 4x restaurants. That will I believe post after the statement closes.

will there then be an additional 6x points? Will they post along with credit card bonus points.

I had to make an effort not to point this out myself. Marriott Rewards is very much a US loyalty programme which “internationals” are also allowed to join.

The benefits of Marriott membership (and more importantly the ability to earn points) are radically different for US vs. non-US members. From the perspective of the consumer value proposition they’re really two entirely different schemes. It appears the intent is to make SPG less internationally focused rather than leverage SPG’s knowledge of the world to benefit Marriott.

Given they’ve recently been fined by the UK you’d think they’d have a go at being GDPR compliant at some point, as well.

The T&C say that for the 1,000 points, you need to spend $30 somewhere (takeout seems to be excluded, despite many of the places on the list being pizza or ethnic) AND submit an online review within the first 30 days after you sign up for the program.

I am curious how the program knows a particular order charged to a registered card on the account was take-out or dine-in.

I think that disclaimer is there to cover instances of a restaurant using a 3rd party vendor for their online orders. If I call in a takeout order and pay at the restaurant, it should work.

Signed up for this program with the promo for 1k points if I spend $30 within the first 30 days. The points for eating have posted but the 1k points have not. Anyone knows if points earned will extend Marriott expiry date? Thanks!

Hi Keflyer,

Yes, the points earned from dining will extend the expiry date of a Marriott Bonvoy Account.

Thanks Christina for the reply. My points posted but the expiry date hasnt been updated yet. Do I need to wait till the end of the month for the new expiry date to be updated or do I need to call in? Thank you!

I've been doing the Asian version of this regularly, often 3-4 times a week. It is an absolutely fabulous program by Marriott. In China members earn points and typically have 30% off as well.

I'm going to JW Marriott Shanghai for dinner this week even though I'm not staying at the property

I hope they extend this program indefinitely
