FAQ from Jan 19/22 email from Marriott:

Can I Still Order Travel Package Awards?

Information on Marriott Bonvoy® Travel Packages
No. Due to varying factors such as low volume in demand, we are no longer selling Travel Package Awards as of January 19, 2022.

Q: What happens to the Travel Package Award I already have in my Account?

If you have a Travel Package Award attached to an existing Reservation, rest assured, we will be honoring your stay and no additional action is required.

Please Note:
The airline miles portion of the Travel Package Award was deposited to you at the time of purchase of the Travel Package Award and, therefore, will not be refunded.

Q: What happens if I need to modify or cancel my Travel Package Award redemption Reservation after March 2, 2022?

If you modify or cancel a Redemption Reservation that has a Travel Package Award attached to it after March 2, 2022, you must contact Member Support to cancel the Travel Package Award, after which you will receive a full Marriott Bonvoy® Point refund for the Hotel portion of the Award. Please visit https://www.marriott.com/help/loyalt...mer-support.mi to find the appropriate Member Support phone number based on your geographic location.

Q: How many Points will I be refunded?

Members will receive a full Marriott Bonvoy® Points refund for the Hotel portion of the Travel Package Award. The refund will be based on the current Points redemption category levels and will equal the sum of the Peak Points Redemption Rate per each Night of the Travel Package Award, at the highest category for which the Award was eligible. The airline miles portion of the Travel Package Award was deposited to you at the time of purchase of the Travel Package Award and, therefore, will not be refunded.

I think this changes everything.
If you had a TP originally issued in 2019 then you won't have any problems extending it for another year.
The TPs in question/danger are the ones originally issued in 2018, which are very different.

Right! Much thanks to Imverge for further clarification - as his case does NOT apply to old TP certs which are those up in the air right now.

As parts of Europe go into a second hard lockdown, including mine where I can’t for travel for inessential reasons
beyond 5 miles, people will physically be unable to use their packages and FNA’s. I’m still optimistic all will auto extended in December, but it seems a little preemptively unjust for Marriott to hint or as some suggest, ‘make it clear’ that some TP’s and FNA’s will expire and others won’t.

So the ios app shows my old TPs with an issue date in 2019, and with a 45K value on them.
So does that mean that these have an 'original' expiration date in 2020?

Such a hot mess that Marriott causes such confusion after a press release.
I mean sure if you want to take the value off the books - go ahead and let the holders know without ambiguity, but the whole cycle of will it be extended or not is draining, especially when the people who pick up the phone are clueless when you talk to them about it.

Those must be old travel package certificates (because they have a 45k value, new ones would have a 5k value) issued in 2018 that were converted to "new category" certificates in 2019 before the old one expired. It appears that Marriott considers that conversion to be an extension and not a new issue. Hence all the concern on this thread that those will not get extended beyond 31st January.

I asked this question earlier but didn't get a response. I also have a cert bought in July 2018 and it says it has a 45K value. I was under the impression that Marriott decided to change that to 5K. Does that only apply to new certs?

If it's 5K pts, I will just make a reservation to get the 7 night credit and some free breakfast. There is a cat 5 Sheraton near me. If it's 45K pts for cancelling, I may take the points.

My travel cert is not showing up anymore. Maybe it expired? What are my options now? Can I get some points back?

Hi onlysuites,

We would like to help check the status of the travel certificate for you if you could provide your Marriott Bonvoy account number to us via private mail here or by email below.

So it's now December and a bunch of these travel packages are still scheduled to expire at the end of January 2021. Is Marriott going to be customer-friendly during this still on-going pandemic and extend them or will they do the customer-unfriendly thing and just hope to see most of them expire unused?

I think the onus is even more so on them to extend now, as it contradicts their previous extension in respects to where we are now. But let’s see...

I think the extension date will happen December 11th per the announcement if your original expiration date was in 2020. If your original expiration date was before 2020, then... wait and see what Marriott IT comes up with

Call Marriott. Usually they can extend it at least once.

I've hit a brick wall trying to extend. Not only covid, but my back hasn't allowed me to travel even if I wanted do - not even car travel in my province, surgery is coming, yet it Marriot's eyes it doesn't matter.

2018 cert or 2019 cert? If 2019 or later cert, should be extended on Dec 11th.

2018 cert, then you might be on your own. Maybe staycation locally.
