However, the reservations look as if they are using points. Under the payment part, they read 596,000 points on one and I forget how many on the other.

Now, I originally paid for this reservation with points, but then called in and had the packages attached. I was told the points would be refunded and the packages would be used. I got nervous a week or two ago and called to Marriott again to confirm that the packages really were attached. I was, again, told that they were attached, but that it also looked to them as if it was a points stay. The Marriott CS agent seemed really confused. But in the end, she said that it was attached so I must be okay.

I called tonight to the first hotel and they, also, say it looks like a points reservation - that the points will be removed from my account for the stay, and that there is no certificate that they have - only a small comment that the system generated that there is a travel package associated with the reservation.

The whole thing is making me a bit nervous. Has anyone else encountered this? It definitely appears different than travel package reservations used to appear. I was wondering if Marriott converted the travel packages to points and supplied the points needed for the stay, but the hotel agent didn't think that sounded likely.

Any thoughts? (Other than that it is time to use these and be done with the whole travel package headache that Marriott has made these to be!)

Thanks.

weren’t all the packages converted to points back in February? Not sure how you still have “packages” to attach to unless it was attached back when it was still a certificate. If it was two weeks ago, then it would have been a points reservation. Need to clarify timeline.

I suspect that since Travel Packages no longer exist, Marriott has assigned a points value to your reservation and that’s what you’re seeing. Pure speculation on my part.

I’m surprised that using the TP was better value than refunding the TP at peak rates and then using your points to pay for the reservation.

I don't believe that properties see the difference... they just know that it is a "redemption" booking not whether you used points, travel package, free nights, whatever. As other poster noted if it is a recent booking then the TP would have been converted to points. If it is was attached before the conversion then you might want to reprice now anyway... to see if the points price is less than the points you would get from the conversion of the TP.

Look at your activity/history. Points are deducted at time of reservation, so if points (rather than the TP) were used you would see it in the transactions.

Partial TRVL_Package 7 Nts up to 210,000 PTS

I just canceled a reservation with a TP certificate attached. After cancellation, I now have this cert back to my account as: Partial TRVL_Package 7 Nts up to 210,000 PTS.

Does anyone know what will happen to the certificate? and if it does, when will that happen?

Per the second point in the wiki, you should have got points back. No idea how you ended with another cert since they supposedly don’t exist anymore. 🤷‍♀️

Might it be possible that the cert has not been canceled yet because I canceled the reservation online and the cert fell back to my account automatically? To be honest, I am nervous to contact Marriott and afraid that one of them might do something wrong again.

Thank you. It seems someone has deleted the certificate and deposit the points into my account already.
