Hi aps75,
If a certificate has attached to your reservation, the reservation is confirmed. If you have any concern, you may contact customer support, or provide the reservation details to us and we are happy to check for you.

On Tuesday I called and asked about moving my dates slightly and at that time the agent said the certificate was attached. Then today I called to move the dates by two days and the agent had no idea what I was talking about. She had never heard of Travel Packages or 7 day certificates. After contacting a supervisor she said there was a 45,000 point award, but no certificate that she could see. She said perhaps people with "more advanced access" can see the cert. In any case, I did successfully change the dates, but I will be surprised if check-in goes completely smoothly. Crossing my fingers...

That is what scares me is the Marriott customer service says that it is confirmed and my account shows that they have applied the certificate to the reservation . It also says that we have to send the certificate to the hotel . What if they dont ? and what if we go to the hotel and see that theres no reservation or so ? How can I get my surety?

The best course of action if you want to cancel or even to change the dates is to first get the certificate DETACHED from your reservation, refresh the app to check that it is actually back in your account while on the phone and then cancel the reservation. This is what I have done a couple of times when making speculative bookings and its always worked for me.

I think people have had mixed experiences. Some have had the certificate automatically returned to their account. Some have had it completely disappear on them and then its an uphill battle to even get it back since no one really understands them.

When I recently booked and then canceled a 35K FNC night, the certificate didn't go back into my account - the rep couldn't get it back, but he was able to give me a new 35K FNC - which was therefore good for a year from that date. That worked out well, it means it will overlap with another 35K FNC. (I know they're less useful post-devaluation, but 2 nts is more useful to us than 1 nt)
I wonder if the same thing happens if you book and then cancel a 7 nt reservation before detaching the cert - the difference being that the reps may not have any familiarity with the 7 nt certs, so that once the cert is lost, it stays lost.

With San Diego reporting its first coronavirus case, I really don't know if we will end up going on the trip that we have planned in early June where I used my 7 night certificate. I am worried I am going to need to cancel, best case would be somehow getting the certificate extended one more year. Sigh.

Sure, if you do not mind another 20% properties going up in categories. I do not think Marriott will slow down the category change due to the virus. Marriott would probably like to give you an extension with the devaluation.

Any recent experience trying to extend the cert a second time? It was extended for me once before. I had to cancel a reservation in the US last minute, and my cert expires in a couple of weeks. The cert went back to my account automatically. It now says I have "Partial Package - 7 nights category 1-4" cert. Any way to extend it?

If previously the cert did not give you that description, it might mean this is the first time the cert is converted from old to new... then you should get another extention.

You meant you were able to cancel online and the cert came back automatically? That is a news to me.

Is it a hard "no" regarding the second extension?

For me, devaluation is better then getting zero value if we don't end up traveling. I will see how things go, one positive is that my Alaska flight that I had booked pre-February 27 got a schedule change, so I in theory could cancel that and get travel funds. Only junk thing is I used a companion certificate, and Alaska is too bogged down to tell me if they will refund me the certificate as well.

It had the same description previously. It was converted from old to new and then extended. Then I applied it to a cat 4 reservation. Then the hotel went up to cat 5, but cert stayed applied. And just now I had to cancel it. I cancelled online. The cert automatically went back to my account right away.
