The Ritz-Carlton, Perth [Master Thread]

Ritz-Carlton Perth to open on 15 November 2019

Marriott just opened up reservations as of Aug 20, 2019. Accepting reservations from Nov 15, 2019.

Never been to Western Australia but looks like overall cost of living is cheaper. Debating if should pull trigger on the brand new Ritz or more mature Westin...

Looks interesting! Rates for Nov-Dec look much higher than for the Westin, hard to justify.

Anyone know if they're running any special launch offers or opening offers?

For those who are interested, room photos have been added online. They are VERY different from the stock photo renderings that were up as a placeholder. Will be staying there in April.

Is anyone staying here for the opening? I've booked in from 17 Nov, will be interesting to see how 'complete' the hotel is...

Any feedback on your stay? I am trying to decide between this hotel and the Intercontinental for an upcoming stay. Can anyone chime in? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Was scheduled to stay here 4 nights last week, but due to the hotel not allowing me to use my club upgrade certificates from the RC Visa, I booked another property. I did end up having dinner and drinks at the RC though, and was very impressed. The cocktail and wine selection and knowledge is top notch and the managers of those programs were great to chat with (and gave a TON of recommendations for the remainder of my trip through Australia). If I do get back to Perth, this will be my choice to stay as the hotel itself looks pretty amazing.

Finally Western Australia has opened its borders to inter-state travellers so I took the opportunity to visit this property from Sydney. The check in staff was delighted to see a non-WA ID holder saying for a long while, all he saw were WA photo IDs'. Even with inter-state travellers now allowed in, the hotel still has a pretty low occupancy rate. All the valet cars are simply parked in the front without the need to move them to a garage.

Australia still has an inbound travel ban in place. You would think that with this level of occupancy rate and without international guests, you would have a pretty decent chance of getting a suite upgrade as a Titanuum member. But sadly, no, all they were willing to offer was a studio room which they called it a triple upgrade already and also told me suites were not available. I actually checked their suite availablity before hand and all suites were available.

During my 2 day stay, their infinity pool had an unscheduled maintainence and had to close for 2 days. I asked to speak to a manager to voice my disappointment as the pool closure was not disclosed at the time of my booking. They then upgarded me to the suite facing the park which was amazing.

In the end, I am not sure if I evetually getting the suite I wanted was due to the pool closure or not. It's a great property overlooking the stunning Elizabeth Quay on one side and Langley Park an Swan River on the other. My only concern is if they are not offering suite to I would think very scarce Titanium members during this quite time, they probably would be even more relunctant when the international borders are open. So lower your expectation.

There are aspects of the Ritz Perth that I really liked and some aspects that could be improved. At least, the Ritz was able to offer a relatively clean room the first time (standards in Perth seem to be a bit different than I'm used to :-)) - here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Pros:
  • Upgraded the morning of arrival to a Langley Park View Suite - nice to receive a full suite upgrade on a Saturday night
  • The suite design is quite pretty with heavy usage of wood and is very aesthetically pleasing
  • The bed was fantastic with the fluffiest covers I've seen, plush pillows, and a just-right or plush mattress
  • Nice views towards a pretty part of Perth
  • Offered late checkout - no need due to my flight schedule
  • Fridha (spelling?) was quite friendly, chatting and offering sparkling wine to those waiting to check in (not a huge wait)
  • Given a big bowl of scrolls to draw from - ended up drawing complimentary breakfast (more on that later)
Neutral:
  • Shower pressure could be improved for a 5-star, and not a big fan of the half-glass and having to step out of the water to reach the soap ledge
  • Breakfast quality is...fine
    • Relatively generic buffet
    • No meat choices for omelets except for large ham slices (that I had to ask for as no meats were listed on the menu)
    • Eggs Benedicts were lukewarm
    • Odd ball-shaped "pancakes" were an inefficient shape - just make normal pancakes
    • Potatoes were not crispy - could not swallow
    • Mochas were good
  • Automated window controls seemed a bit glitchy or confusing as holding down sometimes caused them to go up (but not always)
  • Welcome gift was a plate of 3 oranges and a bottle of wine - neither of which are in my profile
Cons:
  • Given a bill at checkout for 281 AUD (this was a points stay) - I pushed back, and it suddenly turned into a "system glitch" - I believe them, but let's hope they get that system glitch resolved
  • Horrible draft noise from my room door unless I pushed my chair against it to reinforce the seal
Overall, the bed seals the deal here, but there is room for improvement.
