AC Hotel Breakfast Switcharoo
Good people of flyertalk.
I'm staying at a AC Hotel in Spain right now, and on checkin they offered a reduced rate breakfast if I only get coffee and bread items, i.e. no meat and eggs. So the next morning we go and do that, and the hotel charges us the full price of the breakfast buffet rather than the reduced rate. Any success in arguing this? The reason they gave for charging me the higher rate (which is the most expensive meal I've had on this trip... I'm in a cheap area) is because I didn't ask for the coffee and bread breakfast. Of course the breakfast queen didn't come out until we were halfway done eating, and provide us the higher rate. This of course really annoys me because I could walk outside for a few minutes and get the same meal for about 3 euros. For what its worth I'm lifetime gold.

What did they explain about the cheaper breakfast when you checked in? It sounds like when you arrived for breakfast in the morning, it appeared to all her self service with no staff member around to ask which version of the breakfast you were taking.
I've seen hotels that have a cold and hot buffet breakfast offering, with the hot items on a different table. If you don't take anything from the hot table, you pay the cheaper rate, although often you're asked about this (requested to declare your choice at the beginning) or told how the system works when being shown to your table.

The deal was they had a bread and fruit table, then the other table with the more expensive stuff.
