I feel like an idiot, as I shouldíve set a reminder for myself and didnít.

I have a 3 night stay staring in 14 days that requires 255,000 points but I currently have only around 172,000.

Marriott havenít cancelled the reservation yet and Iíve just initiated a transfer of MR points from Amex, but it may take up to 5 working days.

How likely is it that the reservation will be cancelled? Anything I can do?

The points will either be bought on your behalf or your reservation will be cancelled.

you have enough points for two nights. can you adjust your reservation now and then get the third night when the amex points clear? if the transfer is already in process, maybe they will be willing to wait but you'd have to call in for that. what you don't want is to be forced to buy 70,000 points for $875

Not necessarily, but at some point before your stay it will happen. Perhaps if you call Bonvoy and say that the points are on the way they will hold off...

Iíve managed to change the booking from 3 to 2 nights, for which I have the points in my account.

Hopefully Iíll manage to book a third night once the MR transfer is completed.

Thank god it was possible to reduce the number of nights, otherwise I wouldíve had to pay a cash rate and weíre talking about Ä1,500 per night!

Thank you all for your help!

For the benefit of all of us who aren't familiar with this, what is the process by which Bonvoy force-buys points on your behalf to fulfil an award ?

it was posted in the 'changes to points advance' thread. Not many reports of this yet, but someone had Marriott buy points with the CC on file @ T-14d.

What would happen if there's no credit card on file with the account? Would they buy points for you with the credit card attached to the reservation?

Points advance is still a very nice feature. It is one of the true enhancements for SPG folks.

Apart from for those of us who donít use it. We end up with less chance of getting the aspirational rooms we want because a few people have gone and booked every possible combination.

An update from me.

By the time I received the points (this morning), the availability for third night at Hotel Pitrizza was gone. So I booked the third night at Cala di Volpe instead.
