Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Xi’an, China

Posted this in a thread on the China forum, but haven’t received any response to my post. Trying here to see if anyone has input:

Headed to Xi’an in September. Have looked for current hotel recommendations, but haven’t found much in regards to Marriott properties. Leaning towards the Westin, but considering all the newer options, renaissance, ritz, w...is there a better choice?

Budget is flexible. I often like to have lounge access. Also pertinent that I am doing a status challenge for Marriott so looking primarily at those properties. Getting off topic, but I do see that the Fairfield has very cheap rooms; even if I don’t stay there, could I pad my Marriott nights a bit by booking a few nights there?

I think I have a partial answer to the part about padding nights. My current understanding is that I can’t collect nights for two properties on the same nights (maybe I should consider other chains in Xi’an to actually stay at?). However, I assume that I could check in to a cheap Marriott property on my departure date and just leave the keys in the room for housekeeping to find when my stay is up (assuming I don’t check into another Marriott property elsewhere during the stay)?

There is an existing thread on the Westin Xian: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html
And the Sheraton Xian: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html
There is a stay review for the Sheraton Xian North City: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html

It looks like there are other Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Xian, but no stay posts yet in those hotel threads.

I stayed at the Renaissance in Xian. Its really far south of the city and would require taxi or 10-15 minutes walk to the metro to get anywhere. There is nothing nearby within walking distance that I found and I walked around for a while looking. The hotel itself was pretty good and I was upgraded to a junior suite which happens to be the largest suite I've ever stayed at(just bathroom itself was larger than most normal rooms). Breakfast is in the restaurant or lounge but since you're doing a status challenge, I don't that is very helpful to you.

I've had hotels stay overlap and never had issue getting credit for them but its usually only for 1 night overlap. Only issue I can see that might come up is you have to check in with your passport and the hotel registers with the local police department. I'm sure about if you were going somewhere else in China and it shows up that you're staying at multiple hotels.

yes, I’ve read those posts, but thought maybe someone here might have insight into some of the newer Bonvoy properties. The last post on the Westin thread was over a year ago; I don’t see anything of substance on either the W or the RC.

good point. Probably best to reconsider.

Would recommend W or Ritz

I believe both W and Ritz have a very high reputation. And since you are doing a challenge (which means that it will be hard for you to enjoy the member benefit anyways), these hotels can be even better choices for you. Because although they have not been included into the FHR program, you can always try and get a virtuoso to book them (free breakfast, Upgrade, Late CO, 100 USD credit etc).

I heard that Ritz Xi’an offers a free usage of car (within 3km), and you can buy lounge access for less than 100 USD for yourself (and they won’t gift lounge access to high-level members anyways, so no loss here). But it is said that W has a better F&B experience.

Stayed at the new (opened this April) JW Marriott in Xi’an for 2 nights on a corporate rate. Received an upgrade to a corner Executive Suite with a great view of the city, and the hard product was quite good.

The restaurant breakfast buffet was comprehensive, with multiple hot dish stations (eggs, noodles) and a large amount of pastries. The evening meal selection at the lounge included many appetizers, mains, and desserts - more than enough for dinner.

Location-wise, about 30 minutes from the city centre via metro, but attached to a large mall and only 5 minutes away from the nearby metro station.
