Gold to Platinum

I got my Marriott Gold membership through United. Whenever I stayed with Marriott, my nights count towards earning Gold membership ... which I have already got. I think it should count towards towards Platinum membership ... as if I already have 25 nights.

I would tell Arne Sorenson, but he's busy touting resort fees this week.

and ... "The worst news came on May 3, when the company announced Sorenson, 60, had been diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer and would soon begin treatment."

But that's not how it works.

You've received Marriott Bonvoy status through United Airlines, not Marriott Bonvoy elite-qualifying nights.

You can get 15 nights per year with a Marriott Bonvoy credit card from Chase or American Express (but only 15 nights, even if your have multiple cards).

That would be like saying next year you only need to fly 25,000 miles on United to qualify for Premier Platinum since you are already Premier Gold.

As mentioned, if you really want to try for Platinum get a Marriott credit card and you start at 15 nights (probably 16 assuming you get a birthday night). Of if you staying a bunch with your granted Marriott status, try and Platinum challenge.
