I originally thought the same but actually it depends... a Marriott point is roughly worth double a Hilton point. (depending on how annoyed you are with the recent Hilton devaluations and lack of award chart).
So if you're spending more than $300 pre-tax on a 2+ night stay, then you might be better off at Hilton. Otherwise Marriott and the 1,500 fixed points...

This is going to irritate the road warriors who are routinely staying 4 weeknights a week, who’ll be now agonising over “is it really worth doing 2 x 2 night stays and a hotel hop for 1,500 extra points .... “
(Plus one extra amenity bonus, less one night Green Choice. obvs.)

Yup I typically stay 5-8 nights.
Not worth the effort to split a 5 night stay into 2+3. I might just stick with Hilton for double points. And have a comfortable routine.

This promo "may" slightly be worthwhile, if your stay happens to be 2-3 nights and at lower category hotels. It makes even more sense if your elite level is basic. The lower the better. And even more sense if they don't have any Bonvoy CC
I mean spending $90 / night
Marriott (member) staying 2 nights = $90 x 2 (nights) x 10 = 1800 points + 1500 (promotion) = 3300 points. So, 83% extra points.
Marriott (Member) staying 3 nights = $90 x 3(nights) x 10 = 2700 points + 1500 (promotion) = 4200 points. So, 55% extra points.
Marriott (Titanium / Ambassador) staying 3 nights = $90 x 3(nights) x 17.5 = 4725 points + 1500 (promotion) = 6225 points. So, 31% extra points.
Marriott (Titanium / Ambassador with Bonvoy CC) staying 3 nights = $90 x 3(nights) x 23.5 = 6345 points + 1500 (promotion) = 7845 points. So, 23% extra points.
Now, if the night rate was higher ($200/ night) with 5 nights
Marriott (Titanium / Ambassador with Bonvoy CC) staying 5 nights = $200 x 5(nights) x 23.5 = 23500 points + 1500 (promotion) = 25000 points. So, 6.3% extra points.
Clearly, its a "useless" promotion, when Hilton will net you double points and then additional points for more stays.
A $200/ night at Hilton as a Diamond with CC will net you = 200 x 5(nights) x 34 (Diamond with CC) = 34000 points + 10,000 points for promotion (double points) = 44,000 points. 30% extra points. And it'll count towards the stay count.
On the other end,
A 2 night stay at $90 night will net you
90 x 2 (nights) x 10 = 1800 points Plus an 1800 points = 100% extra for a total of 3600 points. .

I get an error too - could it be down? The last promo required quite a lot of intervention by me and work with my Ambassador to get registered, and I'm really not sure I can be be bothered to go through that again just for 1,500 points per long stay.

I'm an almost entirely single-night guy so this one's useless to me. Hilton it is as they have Milestone bonuses in addition to the summer promo.

I was never able to register for the last promo - kept getting the error message, but have been able to register for this one.
Don't know if it will influence my spend. Last quarter's stuff-up saw this longterm SPG Platinum not stay a single paid night with Bonvoy this year - and the sky has not fallen in. A Marriott-free life is possible.

Likewise, I think that the current promotion is weak as I've analyzed my upcoming travels and have mostly one night stays.

I am more at 0.6 cpp for hilton and 0.8 cpp for marriott
When you bring CC spend, it becomes 23.5 for Marriott vs 44 for Hilton. And Hilton has further bonuses stacked on, on basis of number of stays.
