I spent a night at the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel last weekend. It was fine, but definitely not fancy. I was holding a meeting there, so we rented a meeting room and had some food catered in by the hotel.

Good points:
My standard King room on the 14th floor was mostly fine. Faced the airport, but I had no problem with airplane noise. The heater in the room was noisy, though. Very nice view out over the ABQ valley.

The hotel is very very convenient to the airport. It is a very easy walk from the terminal. I could easily throw a baseball into the terminal from the hotel parking lot. There is also a shuttle bus, but I can't imagine needing it unless I had lots of luggage.

I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, but my coworkers reported it was acceptable. There are also several "Village Inn" class restaurants within a five minute walk.

Parking is free, which is not unusual in Albuquerque.

The lobby spaces are small, but clean and comfortable.

One of my pet peeves is when a hotel gives you a copy of USA Today, then charges you for it unless you specifically opt out. At this hotel, the Wall Street Journal was free.

Not so good points:
There is no coffee shop kind of thing in the hotel. To get a cup of coffee in the morning, it was much quicker and cheaper to walk over to the airport terminal than to wait for the hotel restaurant.

There were some weird smells in places in the lobby. It smelled strongly of mold in the entrance way, for example.

The catering for the meeting was marginal at best. We had to remind the catering staff that we had ordered muffins for the first morning of the meeting; they had no muffins, but supplied hard-frozen Danishes. On the second morning of the meeting, the danishes were not frozen, but they were obviously the left overs from the previous day. The coffee supplied for the meeting the first day was rated as "unpalatable furniture stain" by my coffee drinking colleagues; they liked it better the second day.

The wireless internet worked great in the hotel lobby. In the second floor meeting room, it was slower and a bit flaky. I did not bother to pay $10 to try it out in my room.

Summary:
For a night at an airport hotel, it was fine and worth the $90. For holding a meeting, I might try an alternative next time.

The Embassy Suites is probably the best place in ABQ to have a meeting, just an FYI. The Hyatt Tamaya is also nice, but a bit outside the city.

Just checked out of the ABQ airport Sheraton yesterday after a two night stay. I've stayed at every hotel in the little cluster by the airport just off Univ. and the Sheraton is by far the best in the area (with the Hyatt Place a close second).

All of my staff interactions were very positive and everyone was very friendly and proud of the renovation. The room was recently refurbed and of the newer brand standard. It absolutely met my standard of clean, quiet, and comfortable.

As a Plat I was "upgraded" to a room on the 15th floor which will eventually have a Club Lounge. The lounge wasn't open so they gave me chits for a full breakfast, two drinks, and an appetizer at the bar. Although the chits seemed pretty restrictive the staff was fine making substitutions.

The gym had aerobic machines (3 treadmills), free weights, a couple universal-esque machines and mats. Everything was brand spanking new, clean, and in good condition.

The downsides to the hotel are that the physical plant is old (it's the old Wyndham for folks that frequent ABQ -- by the way, I think we should form a support group) so there's a bit of "must" to the place. The water pressure in the shower could have been better, but it was fine for me. And probably my craziest complaint is the ironing boards in the rooms are like "my first ironing board." Besides being only 2' off the ground they can accommodate maybe a sock at the most. Someone would have gotten a good laugh trying to watch me iron my pants the other morning...

My rate was $107/night, which is a touch higher than rates at the Homewood and Staybrdige down the street. The HGI is the closest thing to a full service hotel in the area and the Sheraton is light-years better. As the other poster mentioned, you can walk to the Sheraton from the airport (I could pick-up the airports wifi signal from my room) but other than that, there's not a whole lot in the neighborhood.

Downtown ABQ is about a 10 min. drive.

Thumbs up

I stayed there last weekend:

Convenient shuttle (could not figure out how to walk and it was below 0)

Really nice room.

I was disappointed that the lounge was closed (website said it is back open, maybe it was because it was the weekend) but they gave me an appetizer, two beers, and breakfast. I was a happy camper.

Everyone was super nice.

Good price.

I think this is a great hotel - I highly recommend it for a Plat with an early morning flight. Especially with the ABQ Car Rental return CF, just as easy to drop off the car the night before.

I am at this property right now and stayed here one additional night this week, and I give this hotel two thumbs up! It was some 2* hotel before (can't remember the name), but *wood totally renovated it from the ground up in the new Sheraton decor. Sparkling furniture, cool tones, a 3-minute shuttle ride from the airport...great place and I got a star rate of $63 at the last minute! There is a spg lounge on 15 that is fine (tasty eggrolls) but they are apperantly still waiting for some liquor approval so no cocktails in the lounge (but there is a cool bar downstairs). Not all the bells and whistles of the Sheraton Uptown, but this is a great property and situates ABQ as having 2 great *wood properties! ^

When the hotel owner told Wyndham they were going to end the contract and convert to a Sheraton it was deflagged and operated as the Albuquerque Grand Hotel for the 18 months or so that that they did the renovation.

Stayed here last weekend during a mileage run. Was a little hard to get to from the rental car lot, but after I found it, a great hotel! The front desk gives you 2 drink vouchers for the lobby bar, which was packed around 11pm on a Saturday night. The bar tender was great! The vouchers were only supposed to be for rail liquor but she gave me Laphroaig scotch! Bed was really comfortable, rooms were nice, all and all a great hotel. Didn't ask for an upgrade so not sure on that front. Great staff though!

The lounge on the 15th floor. is now officially open, so platinum members now eat breakfast there. The breakfast was pretty standard for a Sheraton - some fruit, cereal, pastries (not that great, IMHO), bagels/toast, and one hot dish (a kind of breakfast burrito with bacon, egg and chili). The evening service was a bit worse - there was no still no food 45 minutes into the service; we returned 90 minutes later and the hot food container clearly had food but was empty. Still no attendant in sight. (I later heard that an employee did not show up for work). We left without eating a bite.

The rooms were nice enough and we had a great view of the valley. Parking and internet are free for everyone. Plats get free drink coupons, as mentioned previously, though it does say "tip not included". Elevators were a bit slow (not enough of them when the hotel is full).

Overall, it's an acceptable place if you're flying into ABQ. But if you have a car, the Sheraton Uptown is much nicer.

I stayed here one night last month, before an early morning flight. After some problems with the key cards, I settled into my room, which was well appointed but somewhat small. After a storm knocked out the satellite tv, I headed to the club lounge. The attendant was pleasant but the selection of food and drink was limited. I had a so-so chicken sandwich for dinner at the bar, where service was good, and headed back to the room where the tv came on again. The shuttle runs continually and gets to the airport terminal in less than 5 minutes. All in all, a good stay for the intended purpose.

It sounds the airport is quite close to Sheraton ABQ. It wasn't fully clear from the notes above -- is it possible to walk to/from with a roll-aboard or does one need to rely on the shuttle?

According to the hotel's web site, "...our front door is just 200 yards from baggage claim."

Wow, what a surprise.

I'd say the walk takes 3-4 mins, but it's a nice walk with real sidewalks and trees to shade most of it.

Really well run hotel. Excellent SPG recognition. Corner Deluxe Room was well appointed, functional and decor was nice.

Very surprised at the food: I had a few appetizers and sides, including roasted asparagus with lemon wrapped in parmesan. Also had really good hash browns with veggies grated and mixed in with the potatoes. Taquitos seemed handmade and everything else the staff brought out for other diners looked really good. Very surprising for an airport hotel.

Lounge was the only disappointment: attendant was watching the game on the TV. He only got my attention when I started opening the cabinet because there were no napkins to be found. The disgusting fried mozzarella sticks had a fork instead of a spoon for the sauce. The other hot serving dish was just steaming water. Again, I had to ask about the (paid) wines.

Even the shuttle driver took pride in the hotel, asking about my stay.

If only every Sheraton could be like this one (sans lounge).
