I've stayed at both the up-thread mentioned Deadwood SHS and RCSD FF. The SpringHill is nice, they may try to charge for parking. It's attached to Cadillac Jack's Casino. The Rapid City FF is a dump. Largely devoid of decent food options. It's attached to Watiki Water Park and an LQ.

The next couple Friday and Sat night the hotels, both the Marriott, courtyard, Sheraton and Westin in Tysons Corners VA are in the $70/night range. the RC is around $160. night. This is pretty normal for weekends

Don't forget conference/tourist trap cities with an excess of hotel rooms. While it's not $37/night, I've been able to get some decent deals out of Orlando and the surrounding area at times. <$70/nt stuff and $124/nt for a 1,600 sq ft 2 bedroom suite. I probably could have done even better on the low-end prices, but most of my mattress runs are last-minute. Cashback+points+GCs+promos+other hotel bennies often does bring it <$50/nt.

Per cheapesthotelintheworld.com the Springhill Suites in Deadwood, SD (usually very cheap during the colder months) and the Four Points in Saltillo, Mexico.
In the DC area, Dulles airport hotel rates are generally cheap across all chains on weekends. I'm seeing $64-67 for March 30-31st.

Renaissance and Courtyard by DCA have been reasonable at $150 or under when DC is empty, but better deals are available in town. I got the Mayflower before Christmas a couple years ago for about 120/night for a weekend stay. Orlando is good in shoulder seasons, usually under $100 for Courtyard, Springhill, etc but they can still be crowded with obnoxious tourists destroying the breakfast area while barefoot and wearing little more than a swimsuit.

Yeah, but if there is no space on your flight, you risk not getting to your hotel, and if you have a reservation, you will have to pay for the first night that won't count as a stay. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count when my sister doesn't get on a non-rev flight.
Also, if you are like my sister's family, they are no where near her husband's base is located, so she doesn't have "free" parking at close by airports. So parking at the airport 2 to 3 days can add up to making the cost more than staying local.

OP has 975,000 AA miles that are expiring soon.
How to squeeze value out of AA
so not quite “non rev”
