Who has an issue with how the hotels are coded? I stayed at 3 properties in Europe within the last two weeks that have coded as 2x. AMEX is not being helpful. They say that Marriott will send them a list of their properties where I stayed and I will get the correct points. In March, I was charged a deposit at Cristallo, a Marriott luxury property in the Dolomites. It is coded as 2x points. They tell me that I received 6x points. Yet the AMEX website shows the points I was given and it is 2x points. It's all very strange.

Do you folks know if I upgrade, can I use my current card and have it count to the minimum spend? Or would I need to wait until I have the new card before the spend counts?

Finally have an upgrade offer, 50,000 points with minimum $2,500 spend within 3 months. Kinda disappointing considering new applicant bonuses are currently 75,000. Will sleep on it this weekend...

This time, I got a terrific agent who immediately understood the issue. He checked on the Marriott website to confirm that each hotel was a Marriott property. He then opened a case for the missing points. I also had him look at a March deposit billed by Cristallo. His records indicated that I had received 6x points but I had not. I had audited what actually ended up in my Marriott account so was confident points were missing. He ran the numbers and confirmed what I saw. He has opened a case and expects me to receive the missing points within 2 weeks.
What a difference an agent can make.

Honestly this card is a bit underrated. Good return on Marriott spend, and even unbonused spend at 2x Marriott points isn’t terrible. The net fee is a real $150 - no airline credits, no special rates to book, no specific hotels needed - $300 in Marriott spending is refunded annually. If you don’t have an AMEX Platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Priority Pass is useful. I met minimum spend a while back and I am using the card more than expected on general stuff. I never as really into the SPG card so maybe I don’t have the same sense of loss. It would be a better card if I could spend $30,000 for Marriott Diamond or whatever.

Had a $215 Residence Inn stay over the weekend. The charge posted yesterday. Today I see the $215 Bonvoy credit and the $40 Amex offer credit I was targeted for and signed up for. Not bad making $40 on a quick overnight.

I value Marriott points at 0.8 cents per point and Hilton st .45 cents per point. Two Marriott points is 1.6 cents per dollar, which while not great, isn’t terrible (roughly equivalent for unbonused spend on the MR cards). Even Hilton at 1.35 cents per point (Surpass/Aspire) isn’t terrible if you are also meeting a spend threshold.

There have been so many thread with people arguing over point valuations that I am going to skip that discussion since we all know YMMV greatly. If using the Marriott cards for nonbonused spend works for you...then great but I still don't think many are going to agree.

Soooo, I just got an upgrade offer for 125,000 bonus points with $5k spend during first 3 months. As far as I'm aware, that's the highest bonus offer they've extended so far for this card.
