Upgrade Requested thru [Ambassador/App/FDA]: App Chat. Room reflected as Executive Suite but downgraded on arrival

Comments: Requested for an upgrade 3 days before my arrival thru the chat which the agent agreed to look into my request. 30mins later, my room was reflected as an executive suite which i was pleased with the result. On the day of the check-in i noticed my room was changed to a Club King hence i enquired thru the chat what happened and was quoted "unforeseen circumstances"
Arrived at the property and the FDA apologised that the suite assigned was not available due to plumbing issues therefore was put out of action.
For whats its worth, they allowed me to choose any other room category (below suite level) hence I ended up with a Club King.

This was a Design hotel so I had no idea what to expect. I arrived around noon and was promised a room on a higher floor if I could wait (or the 5th floor right away). I opted to go to my event and came back and got a suite on the 5th floor from a rather clueless desk person (e.g., when giving me the room had to get approval from someone else to make sure what she did was correct). This hotel now charges a ridiculous resort fee that comes with little value (higher speed internet and something from the minibar), but that was never explained and allegedly was going to be refunded but nothing has hit my account yet. Again, I was only in the room a bit for a one-night stay but it was disconcerting seeing the guy in his window nearby.

Surprisingly the Bonvoy recognition is very good here.
Welcome amenity option: 500 points, $10 f&b amenity, or some selections of f&b amenity (I choose cheese platter)
And they also include buffet breakfast at restaurant for 2 due to status.
Another interesting point, I ask about express check out due I might need to depart the hotel very early, the fdc mention its not a problem. He also told me to inform them on the night before the departure so they can prepare a take away sandwich pack as the restaurant breakfast wont be ready at that time.

Comments: I have yet to get an upgrade when booked into a Junior Suite in the Chambers Wing which is weird because the property will upgrade elites within the Barlow Wing.

Comments: Tried to redeem a SNA but was notified that it could not be honored a day before arriving and SNA was refunded. Upon arrival was upgraded to an Overlook Suite which is a grade higher than the Astor Suite I had tried to get with an SNA! Great stay and great upgrade on an award stay. As a result I am seriously reconsidering my allegiance to the Ritz SF.

Comments: Upgrade initially refused due to property allegedly at "full capacity." Given a very poor room, requested something better (and expressed disappointment I had not at least been blocked into a decent room). Agent magically found Spectacular Corner Suite, which was much nicer.

Had two poor interactions with the front desk (check-in, check-out). All other staff were great.

Comments: Was not upgraded pre-arrival, app showing the hotel as sold out on the 2nd of my 4-night stay. During check-in, casually mentioned to the staff that it was disappointing to receive no upgrade and a room on a low floor. Staff replied that the hotel was running full (consistent with what the app was saying), but promised she would keep an eye in case a better room opened up. I honestly didn't expect this to be followed up, so was surprised to received a message on the second night that they would like to move me to a better room the following day. The original room that they assigned me to was not bad at all and it was one of the two rooms that were larger than the others on the floor. The upgraded room was called Studio room, which is basically the same as a Deluxe room but with a separate work/study area, a larger bathroom, and a walk-in closet. Very happy with the upgrade, but was more impressed that they actually followed up on the promise to move me to a better room.

Comments: Pleasant surprise to have an upgrade at a long term stay property. The extra space was nice to have! And it meant that someone could sleep in a real bed instead of a sofa bed, so a definitely plus. (Front desk clerk didn't say anything about upgrade at check in, though I checked in late so likely the night crew.) Lots more families with young kids at the property than usual, likely due to the holiday weekend.

Comments: Checked in at 6am and upgraded room wasn't ready, still the standard room was plenty nice. By lunchtime they had my room on the 21st floor ready. Sure nice to be back and taste the finer service and lounge service of the TPAC hotels versus the sad state and value in USA

Comments: Originally upgraded to executive suite at 5-day SNA window, and then upon arrival was told upgraded to this room. (Executive suite had only 1-bedroom and no patio according to website.) Appeared to be low-season for hotel.

Comments: Michigan Avenue view was a joke, I could see some buildings that are on Michigan Avenue but not the street itself (high floor, north-facing view but I had the corner room furthest from Michgan avenue. The view was mostly the Marriott Magnificent Mile and a parking garage. The website shows this room as having windows on two sides, and while I did have a corner room I only had one window.
