Comments: App showed several higher room types available (including Avenue View King and Avenue View Suite), but FDA claimed no upgrades were available due to "high occupancy," even when I showed him the screen.

Manhattan rates absolutely insane tonight . . . this room was going for $1095. Definitely the least impressive thousand dollar per night room I've ever seen
Aside from the lack of upgrade and knowing that Manhattan room rates obviously can be ridiculous...

What did you think of the hotel overall? Compared with other top 5* luxury hotels in Bonvoy or in general in Manhattan?

I did not notice. But making a dummy reservation for two separate rooms vs one two-bedroom suite, the suite is indeed much more expensive.

Comments: 8th stay this year at this property and the first time seeing a suite. Probably helped by my fairly positive review on the official post stay survey a couple of stays back. Funnily enough I was about to cancel as the rate for the Marriott down the road had dropped to be within 5SGD of my rate at the Sheraton (I much prefer the Marriott TP for the hardware and the 4-hour happy hour), but then saw I had been pre-upgraded to a Suite. This was about a week out. I thought it wasn't too nice of me if I cancelled after they had pre-upgraded me to a Suite, so I decided to keep the reservation. Received a suite on the 16th floor ("Rome"), décor was dated but everything was in good shape and the extra space was definitely appreciated.

Comments: Room was large, well furnished, and overall quite nice, with lots of light and Manhattan skyline views. Great value at well under $200. Subway station (E, M) just down the block. Would definitely stay again if needed a cheap, convenient room midtown.

Comment: Upgraded me couple days before my stay (even though the hotel was fully booked). Also it did help that it was under my corporate rate + brought 5 members of my team to stay at the hotel.

Comment: Booked 7 months ago and immediately upgraded to a Garden Suite. 2 days before “downgraded” to a classic room. At check-in upgraded to a Premium double room. They told me that they don’t upgrade more than garden suite (so basically no suite/villa with seaview). I prefear seaview vs more space. The room was wonderful: close to the sea with a stunning view! Great property, great staff, great service, great sea! Can’t recommend enough! We prefer Pitrizza compared to Romazzino! Hope to comeback in the future! F&B are REALLY expensive: pizza 30 eur, pasta 35 eur, water 12 eur, lunch (buffet) 100 eur,...! PS: Virtuoso and Marriott Luxury privileges rate give a 200 USD credit (they credit 200 EUR…) while FHR give only 100USD (but a confirmed 16:00 late check-out).

Property: Cala di Volpe
Dates:9/17-92
Rate: Senior rate
Room Booked: Garden View Double
Room Received: Premium Seaview Double (ie king)
SNAs: no, suite request didn’t go through

A special occasion stay with prior communication to the GM. Same GM for here and Pitrizza.

Requested a suite, said it was much preferred over view, told no availability, showed on line availability to garden view suite, then said they wouldn’t upgrade me because the rate on the suite was much higher (duh). Was told that I got a double upgrade, that’s all they would go. I see the poster above me got a suite, then downgraded, not sure if they asked (although they got what the view they wanted).

Maybe the difference was one night vs four but count Cala di Volpe as one of those that won’t honor Titanium benefits.

Edit: Halfway through the 4 night stay, I was offered a premium seaview suite, which I accepted. It’s a step above the upgrade pool suites I believe, so a nice makeup.

Twitter team may have gotten involved (although initial twitter response is “its up to the hotel”, to which I replied “you mean violating the Ts and Cs concerning Titanium benefits is up to the hotel”? and that got it escalated.

Disliked to do it but initial room was so small, there was only one chair and no place to put the room service tray other than the dresser.

Comments: Upgrade came through almost immediately after I booked the hotel back in March, which was over six months before my stay.
