This type of thread has been doing on for 16 years (!) & some appreciate the format/information so definitely it should continue, but for myself I'll probably take a pass. If I'm interested in what a particular property is doing wrt upgrades (success or fail) I'll read (& post in) the individual property thread(s). Scrolling through a thread that will be multiple pages of properties I'm not staying at just to find report on one that I will be staying at doesn't make sense to me when people also report upgrade success/fail in individual property threads. To me it's more time & information efficient to read the property thread, but appreciate what OxonFlyer mentions.

Cheers.

I hear what you are saying and (although it is extra work) believe this info should be posted in the individual threads and in this one. If I keep seeing a property here that consistently gives upgrades to Elite members it puts that property on my radar. Conversely, if I see frequent fails I often scratch that property off of my list.

Four Points Bangkok
7 nights over Chinese New Year. Points stay ( made sense only because Bangkok was 99% full and cash rates were insanely high). Upgrade to premium room and was satisfied with that. Premium room benefits include: 1 piece laundry per day, grab and go coffee, some welcome cocktail/happy hour deal that I didn’t use. They offer 20% dining discount for Platinum ( not sure if it includes all membership tiers). They honoured Your24 request.
I like this hotel. The only negative : WIFI was a disaster until they brought a router, problem solved instantly.

Disagree. Pointless to check in on the app. Just message them using chat. If you check in on app, you won’t be eligible for the elite guarantee:

The terms and conditions expressly state an upgrade is based on the time of check-in, not the time of arrival.

And we all know that every Marriott property follows the T&C to the letter.

Back on topic, I vote strongly in favor of continuing the SPG tradition with this thread. It's a great centralized source for real time intel on how folks are doing on upgrades. Also fun to read.

does this help? Always use app to check in but never asked for upgrades via app. Relegated to asking at front desk

Property: Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo in Philippines
Date(s): February 2019
Room booked: Guest Room
Room received: Concierge Lounge Access Suite
Elite Level: Titanium

Award stay: No
Rate Type: Pre-pay
LNF stay: No

Comments: Checked in on app +48 hours and upgrade to suite appeared +24 hours. Platinum benefits include: breakfast in Runway Cafe buffet (advised at check in to go to hotel buffet because lounge breakfast is only snacks); lounge access with food (5.30-7.30pm) and alcohol (5.30-9.30pm) good enough for a meal with four hot dishes; suite upgrade on highest floor 15 across from lounge. Very good Platinum recognition in this new full-service hotel.

Comments: I manage my father’s Marriott account - booker club level as that was all that was available. He received this upgrade on a night when the hotel was fully sold out for a nearby concert.

Comments: Got an ugly Bonvoy card. Bonvoy... YUCK!

Property: Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre
Date(s): 14-15 February 2019
Room booked: Traditional room
Room received: Junior Suite
Elite Level: TIT/LTP
Award stay: no
Rate Type: Standard
LNF stay: No

Comments: I was upgraded weeks in advance to a two-bedroom Executive Suite. I didn't need all that space, but this junior suite is pathetically small. I'd just call it a corner room instead.

Property: Westin Bayshore Vancouver
Date(s): 15-17 February 2019
Room booked: Traditional room
Room received: Junior Suite, then Prince of Wales Suite
Elite Level: TIT/LTP
Award stay: no
Rate Type: Standard
LNF stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: I was upgraded weeks in advance on this reservation. The initial room was the noisiest room in the hotel. We had an ice maker on one side, cackling seagulls/crows outside, and cackling Canadians on the other side. The wife and I weren't having, so I went downstairs and they opened up the Prince of Wales Suite. It was a very basic two room suite, but the views were amazing. The walls are so paper thin at this property though.

Fair enough.

Short answer... I get "recognised" as a lowly Platinum (because I'm LTP) despite also being TIT, which means my treatment at properties is usually an afterthought.
