Hospes Maricel and Spa, Design Hotels - Calvia, Spain [Master Thread]

Cat 7. Hotel website:

Hospes Maricel and Spa is made up of two buildings: the original 29-room “Maricel Palace” and the new 22-room “Natura building,” which includes the impressive Bodyna Spa & Wellness center. Once a grand residence, and later a hotspot for the old-school jet set, the hotel is impressive for its views of the Mediterranean, historical beauty, and modern style.ARCHITECTURE &; DESIGN. Comprised of a converted 16th-century mansion and a beautifully designed new building across the road, connected via an underground walkway, Hospes Maricel & Spa is a unique mix of neoclassical and avant-garde architecture. The new building is constructed in the typical Mallorca stone wall style while the old building's revamp has returned traditional Balearic elements such as archways, arcades, and pillars in marble, stone and sandstone from nearby Santanyí. The interiors are decidedly contemporary allowing the Mediterranean views to take center stage.

I have stayed there recently. I was upgraded to a suite which had beautiful sea views and a very nice free-standing bathtub. I also got a complimentary bottle of chilled cava as an amenity. The hotel was very nice. Even on a December afternoon it was possible to sit outside on the terrace in a t-shirt. Later it got cold and the blankets really helped.

You could definitely notice that it was off-season, as there were relatively few guests and many of the nearby shops were closed.

In the elevator they advertise that they have the "world's best breakfast'. I guess since it is a spa location and in Spain, breakfast starts later than many might expect, namely at 8 am. Since I had a 7 am flight, I was not able to try it out. I am not sure who determined it is the best in the world, but a quick google search does lead to a lot of raving reviews.

If the dinner menu is a bit too pricey for your tastes then they also offer a three-course "executive menu" for 29 EUR, I think. I chose this option and was quite satisfied. You will find the offer in your room, although it is not labeled "executive menu" on that flyer.

As far as parking is concerned, I was able to easily find street parking nearby and therefore avoided any hotel parking charges.

Note about points posting. I believe this property does their postings sweep each Sunday, so your stay may really take a week to post.

There is a very small public beach a 2-3 minute walk bit down the road. It was the first beach I have ever seen with an elevator to take you down to the beach!
