Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Oxford, Mississippi

Has anyone stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Oxford, Mississippi? I'm surprised there isn't a full-service hotel here, given the university.

I would have titled the thread Courtyard, Oxford, MS, since you're asking about a specific property vs. hotels in xx, which are more family-comparison threads. ;)

Given Oxford has a population of 24,000 people, I'm not surprised that there isn't a full-service property there. Actually there are only 2 full-service properties in the entire state & they're located in Jackson.

Looks like your options are the Courtyard or Townplace Suites. Since you get 10pts/$ at CY vs 5pts/$ at TPS, seems like CY is the way to go.

Cheers.

Good point, but there are an additional 20,000-plus students at the college plus the NCAA Division I athletics.

Looks like there's a really, really nice independent, 5-star hotel in Oxford called The Chancellor’s House. Also, I just found out there's the Graduate Oxford, which is part of the small Graduate brand of hotels in college towns. I'd love for Graduate properties to become part of Tribute Portfolio.

I just booked the Courtyard.

Maybe it's now The Graduate, but I once stayed in Oxford in a full service standard chain hotel that was located several blocks off the (very pretty) main square in the center of town. I can't remember how it was branded at the time. I also noticed some small historic inn, I think right on the square, that looked attractive. At the time, there were a couple good restaurants in town too.

There is no such thing as a "Marriott Bonvoy" hotel, "Bonvoy" isn't a hotel brand name.

Most of those students are in college housing & their parents/alumni don't visit that often. There are 37 properties in MS & only 2 full-service. That says something about the demographics ;) Stay at the CY, do a trip report, & move on. Or, if you want a better experience than CY, go outside MAR to the indy hotels. Shrug.

PS - also agree w/ kpfleming. Just because the mods (hopefully temporarily) re-named 'family' threads to Bonvoy, hopefully it won't stick. Bonvoy is the name of the loyalty program & has jack-all to do w/ individual properties.

I did two nights at the Courtyard in Oxford.

Very good staff. They always addressed me by name. Very warm and hospitable. The property has a great location within walking distance of both the University of Mississippi campus and Oxford's downtown, including restaurants and bars. Best of all, it has a complimentary shuttle to anywhere within the city limits. Kind of an odd hotel because in addition to the typical Courtyard bistro there is a third-party rooftop bar and restaurant with food served only at dinner. Prices at both outlets were about the same, but as you can imagine the food is a little better upstairs -- not gourmet, but decent. Great rooftop views.

I was recognized as a platinum premier, not an ambassador. I was upgraded to an unusual bi-level suite with 1 1/2 bathrooms, a huge walk-in shower and a private balcony that would be great for sunbathing on warm, sunny days. If you had limited mobility, however, the stairs taking you to the bedroom could be dangerous. The lighting in the room was horrible, as with most hotels. Too many switches, very yellow-ish and not bright enough. I did get feather pillows, but no extra feather pillows and no extra towels.

Besides the usual $10 coupons, which only cover the cost of a cold breakfast without coffee, I was told because of my status I was receiving two free drink vouchers for the rooftop bar and restaurant. This could be used for any beer or white sold by the glass.

Otherwise, this was a pretty typical Courtyard. My only real complaint was the fair amount of wear-and-tear. Apparently, this is the official hotel for visiting sports teams so it probably gets a lot of use during the college sports season. Still, I was surprised for a relatively new (maybe 3-4 years?) hotel to see bubbling and cracked wallpaper, scratched and stained furniture, paint bubbling and ceiling damage (water damage?) above the shower and others signs of neglectful maintenance. That's too bad because the product is modern and otherwise attractive.
