Yes, me.
If so, when did it start?
At the inception of any hotel loyalty program I am a member of. Hilton, Hyatt, SPG, old Marriott Rewards, new Marriott Rewards.

All my hotel stays in Canada earned based on the equivalent in USD. So if my hotel room rate was CAD100, I would get ~USD75 x 10 = 750 base points.

Similarly, in my many, many SPG Cash & Points stays in Canada, the cash part was always variable since it was e.g. USD50 - which would then show up as ~CAD65 on my folio.

Sorry, yeunganson, but you are just plain wrong here.

Was also given 10 CAD. I didn’t feel like complaining for 3$ but it does give the wrong impression.

And it specifically states hotels outside the US convert to local currency, equivalent to US amount.

so they should easily understand this is worth 13 cad

Boy some of us are going to make sure when we leave the US we look like "UGLY AMERICANS" standing in our hotel screaming " I don't want you local currency I want US DOLLARS"

Or "I WANT $3 MORE!!!!!!!!"

I think I will pass on pitching this fit, thank you!

DYKWIA is in full swing here LOL!

(And if the Courtyard in Europe gives you 10 Euros are you going to give them back a few Euros?)

Marriott should crack down on this ripoff. The T&Cs make it abundantly clear that this is a USD amount. How far would one get making a claim that the $20000 spend required for Ambassador status should be calculated in CAD , AUD or NZD ( ie, 14-15, 000 USD) for citizens of those countries? Rhetorical question.

A documented Platinum Elite Welcome Gift choice at Courtyard, AC Hotels, and MOXY is daily $10 USD F&B credit for member+1. Outside the United States, it's the local equivalent of $10 USD.

Not 10 Canadian Dollars. Not 10 Hong Kong Dollars. Not 10 Euros. Not 10 Japanese Yen.

Nobody is demanding, "I WANT $3 MORE!!!!!!!!" than the documented benefit.

The guest should not have to say anything, except to choose the Welcome Gift and to say "thank you," if so inclined. The hotel has the responsibility to offer and provide the documented Elite benefits, without shortchanging the Elite guest.

I don't understand why some folks on this forum defend hotels that cheat.

I agree with Horace. It's not overly complicated, it's not rocket science, it's merely the local equivalent of ,$10 USD. If some franchisees wish to reinvent the obvious, then the hammer should fall accordingly.

For reference, I checked into an AC Hotel in Spain this weekend. The choice was 500pts or USD10 F&B credit - so said the voucher I was given. I picked the points so no idea how the credit would have been handled against the EUR on any F&B bill.

They undoubtedly would have applied a hotel-friendly exchange rate

+1 Exactly. Some licensees are worse than others in that regard.

As others mentioned on FT concerning the Fairmont certificates, there were some shady properties that tried to play to game, and a quick call to Fairmont straightened them out immediately.

Unfortunately, with the new Marriott....I fear the involvement of Marriott OCA would be needed to get them back in line.

I can't believe I am still reading this thread and seeing attacks on OP or those of us who demand the benefits we are entitled to as laid out in program terms.

It is time to move on. Even the lurkers repeatedly say this is not correct and they have been silent more than before after Marriott integration.

This is not OP DYKWIA attitude. This is sane, normal behavior. The not nornal behavior are the ones attacking OP and OP supporters.

Seriously. Some people

After seeing the undying list comments, I can imagine if the hotel gave 10 bitcoins or $10 Euros or 10 UK Pound to the elite guest as food credit in Canada, the honest elite guest will yell "document says $US10! I cannot take more than documented benefit. Let me pay for anything over my limit!!!" .

I personally lucked out that I got $CAD 10 but also my points credit was also based in Canadian dollars on the hotels I frequent. So I am going to learn the dark arts of the predatory flyertalker - if rules are violated on my benefit - keep quiet - don't report the hotels giving those extra points and keep pocketing those extra illegitimate points. But if the hotel violated the rules and short-changed me for $1, I will head report to corporate compliance!

Of course we're not gonna complain if a mistake benefits us. We're not in the business of being charitable to greedy for-profit corporations.
