According to the terms and conditions, Qualifying Charges earned on Stays will count towards $20,000 U.S. dollars.

Doesn't matter b/c I had only 79 nights last year, but Marriott is playing games with the spend calculation, like it is with just about everything else these days.

By way of contrast, it's nice to see my Hyatt "base point meter" (dollars spent * 5) increase with every night that posts. Starting from night 1.
Transparency - it's not that hard! Marriott, give it a shot.

My spend according to Marriott was less than 80% of Marriott/SPG spend on my SPG card alone, not counting several thousand more in Marriott/SPG spend on other cards.

Dont forget local and city taxes and VAT do not accrue points. In most of Europe, the room rate is always inclusive of VAT.

Don't forget that taxes and certain other charges (outside providers, resort fees, parking, laundry/dry cleaning, service charges, tips, etc. I would guess) don't count for spend. In a few jurisdictions, alcohol might not count either as IIRC there are three or four USA states where we never were supposed to each Starpoints on alcohol.
Still, a 20% discrepancy sounds big to me, as foreign destinations often don't have itemized taxes (although they're more likely to impose a 10-15% service charge) and taxes are almost always less than 20%.

It's more like a 40% discrepancy in total, as I had quite a bit of Marriott/SPG spend on other cards.

Ambassador Service $ progress not found
Hi
Has anyone else found a way to view the progress toward Ambassador $20,000? I have had a number of stays already this year which show up as nights but no where shows the revenue toward the $20,000.

Indeed. Marriott have gone through the effort of specifying and then coding a system which specifically hides your spend until you get to 50 nights. I'd rather they had put that coding effort to fixing some of the more significant bugs in the system rather than investing all their money in hiding things from us, but there you are.
