Attaching a screen grab below of various hotel brands and segments from different hospitality companies that I put together. Horizontally, the way I've grouped the brands are not like-for-like comparisons other than them sharing the same segment [i.e. Park Hyatt is not a competitor to BVLGARI, but rather both brands are classified as 'Luxury'] ; rather reading them vertically is an arrangement of premier at the top and less premier towards the bottom [i.e. Andaz is the premier product in Hyatt's lifestyle segment, followed by Alila and then Thompson].

Hope this helps color in some lines.

That is about a good a chart one can expect. A few lower end omissions, but nothing worth picking apart.

Marriott LIES about the "Guaranteed 4 pm late checkout".

I stayed at TownePlace Suites Jackson Ridgeland/The Township at Colony Park the night of February 23 and departed February 24.

I explained my personal situation, that I had flown from Texas to Mississippi to transport my 87-year-old post-Covid mother from a Rehabilitation Center to a Nursing Home in a certain time frame and that I could not be back to the hotel until at least 2 pm.

I requested 4 pm checkout. They refused, and offered 12 pm. I asked them to look at my account and verify that they could see that I am Platinum and that Marriott states:
4 p.m. Late Checkout
Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout, subject to availability at resort and convention hotels.

The front desk person looked at my booking and then said they could do 12:30 pm at the latest, because the hotel was fully booked. This was neither a resort nor a convention hotel.

I called Sherry at Marriott Platinum Elite Care (800) 228-2100 and she said Marriott does not guarantee late checkout, I have no recourse and there is no compensation.

As a Hilton Diamond Elite I know I have to ask each property about late checkout. Up until February 24, 2021, Marriott had always honored its guaranteed late checkout for me, in Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean, South and North America.

Marriott has not given me a complimentary upgrade in years.

It is hard to compare hotel chains when hotels lie and deny published benefits.

Flexible Cancellation program ending for Marriott

Seem Marriot is ending flexible cancellation policy for stays after April 1st 2021. For stays on and after April 1st 2021, individual hotel cancellation policies that is communicated at the time of booking will apply.

Hilton has not made such move yet. Will choose Hilton for my travel after April 1.

I’m not trying to be smart, but we’ve all known about the pandemic for over a year. The number of people being vaccinated is rapidly increasing. I think it’s reasonable for Marriott to assume, at some point, that travelers will begin to have some more certainty around their travel plans. Do we expect all businesses to operate in “pandemic mode” forever?

Not forever, but in some parts unfortunately govts change the rules at very short notice so one week travel is allowed the next not allowed, then the following week highly not recommended so that will leave people not wanting to book if flexibility is not there.

For myself I just book very shorterm in covid times, has worked out for me.
