Courtyard Atlanta Airport South Sullivan Rd [Master Thread]

Stay Report 11/26 - 11/27

Location: The hotel is located on the south side of ATL (obviously) near a number of the other ATL hotels like the Westin and Marriott. Do note this area is pretty seedy and feels unsafe at night. There isn't much else around the hotel but there are some restaurants that will deliver if you need food.

Hotel: This is an older style Courtyard and it absolutely feels it. The parking lot is supposed to be gated and restricted to hotel guests with key cards only but when I was there the gates were just left open. The hotel itself is an older style three story suburban Courtyard and very little of it is renovated. The lobby at least is nice but outside of that there's only a single elevator and the room doors all have the old Courtyard four trees logo on them. There's a 24 hour fitness center and a few computers in the lobby along with the standard Bistro setup and Marketplace.

Check In: When I arrived the front desk agent was in an argument with a guest who didn't have hot water in his room. I got to enjoy the agent yelling "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SO RUDE!" to the guest as he walked away. That was charming. He was at least polite to me though I was not offered a choice of Platinum amenities so we'll see if the points post.

Room: Standard older style CY room. Large bed facing the window, small bed, SmarTV, outlets next to the bed and then a small bathroom with older style shower and sink and small closet outside the shower area

My rate was $128 which wasn't bad but between the neighborhood, the service and the older property I doubt I'll be back, there are enough other Marriotts by ATL to stay at.

If I need to stay by the airport in ATL, I always book the Renaissance Concourse since they usually have comparable rates plus the runway views are to enjoy for a good amount of #AvGeek Planespotting.

The Marriott Gateway and Springhill Suites Gateway are newer hotels, not in a sketchy area and share a rental car train stop. You just hop on the rental car train steps outside the airport terminal, go one exit and the hotel is there. No waiting for or crawling in a dirty van being driven by who-knows, no worries about getting caught in traffic exiting in the airport, and no sketchy neighborhood. Friends actually went back to the airport for dinner when they were staying there on a layover, eating at a Chinese ff restaurant in the atrium.

I have always thought the only thing keeping that CY from changing badges to a Baymont or America's Best were people who don't know any better.
