The night is Dec 31 so 2019 night credit.
For all intents and purposes, the stay is in 2019.
But the spend is 2020...
Gotta love mehriott IT

So just to confirm I'm understanding correctly...the night credit will count toward 2019, but the spend will count for 2020? Or did I misunderstand?
Also, does it make any difference if I'm prepaying for a NYE dinner/party package. The hotel requires a pre-payment of about $1,200 for the event, and I'm planning to pay in the next couple of weeks. Maybe if I'm pre-paying the spend will count toward 2019?
I'd even consider switching to a pre-pay rate for my room (it's currently booked with points) if it means I can get the additional spend locked in for this year to keep status.

For this case, the night would credit to 2019.
For the spend, no matter you prepaid it or not, it would credit to 2020.

2019 Nights or 2020 NIghts for stay over new years?
Check in Dec 31, Check out Jan 3.
Will I get 1 night credit for 2019 or do they all got to 2020?
1 night short 50 for reward (already lifetime, so don't need it to qualify)

For this case, 1 night will credit to 2019 and the rest will credit to 2020.

I'm wondering if a lurker might be able to help me with my case as I am not having much luck with Marriott Bonvoy and the representatives are not terribly helpful sadly. I had a stay over NYE - 5 nights from 12/27 to 1/1 that got me exactly to 100 nights. My spend before this stay was just over $18k and my stay was over $4k. Marriott credited the nights to 2019 and the $$ to 2020. they won't change this and have referenced the above policy. But when I called to double check before booking (and after booking) nobody referenced such a policy. I cannot find it in the T&Cs anywhere that the spend credits to day of check out. surely something can be done to fix this? it doesn't feel right that I did all the work and spent the money but now Marriott won't award the appropriate status. 4/5 nights of $$$ were accrued during 2019 so the policy makes no sense to me. is there any way to fix this? i used both my of my awards (PLT and Titanium) for the extra elite nights to get to 100 nights. so now I have lost the ability to select SNAs as well on top of all this. it's so incredibly frustrating. are there any other cases such as this?

weird night calculation
I have a question - I am sure this has been answered but I do not know exactly where.
I stayed in the westin at lake las vegas from 12/31 to 1/2. So, I had one night last year and one night this year. They did not credit the night for this year however. When I called in they said it belonged in LAST year. That just seems wrong?

Check in 2020, check out 2021, stay credits?
I have a one month stay at a Marriott property checking in mid December 2020 and checking out mid January 2021.
Which year will the nights credits to? I have already qualified for titanium this year so would rather they were credited to 2021!

Per my past experience, the nights of your stay in 2020 will post to this year. The 2021 nights of your stay will post to that year. So the answer is night credits will be split between the years.

It’s a reasonably safe assumption that this will happen again this year, but with Marriott’s track record of ambiguous T&Cs that never quite seem to clarify obvious FAQs, you can never be certain.

BTW, does anyone have any datapoints which confirm to which year the spend amount - for the purposes of Ambassador qualification - is credited ?
