Lima doesn't have public transit.

It's a bit of a hectic system but easy to use once one understands the nuances of life in Lima.

Looks like I'll be staying at the Aloft in Miraflores in two weeks after our stay at the AC Hotel so I'll be sure to write an updated review on Titanium recognition and how the stay was.

They proactively offered late check out and even made an one time exception to allow us to check out at 6pm!

I liked the location and the typical Aloft offerings but nothing beats the AC or JW at Larcomar. :)

(I wonder if the Lurkers pass these reviews along...I don't always post Marriott and Hilton reviews on TripAdvisor because I'd have to edit heavily so as not to include elite details. I think when posting elite details, false expectations for 'regular' travelers are created. I got an TA message a few years ago from a TA user asking about why I was Platinum and how that traveler could do the same.)

Paid, Platinum. Property as advertised. My Lima friends had recommended JW; I suppose because of its potential (it was very foggy both nights I was there) views of the ocean. But after looking at costs, knowing that I’d only be in Lima for two nights, arriving late one night, and leaving mid-morning after the 2nd night, I couldn’t justify the additional cost. In addition, the walk between Aloft and JW is no more than 10 minutes.

Aloft is very new. I was upgraded to a corner room, in advance, being a Platinum. (Basically a king room with floor to ceiling views from two sides; maybe a bit larger.) I’ve never stayed at W, but I understand that Aloft is W “junior”. The reception/bar area was quite busy at 11 PM on a Friday night with thumping music. The desk agent, due to the noise and the plastic barriers, did walk outside of her cubicle to welcome me to the property and explain all of my benefits as a Platinum. She was excellent.

Room was fine – no issues except an inexplicable small puddle of water near the toilet Friday evening, dry Saturday, but reappeared Sunday morning. I am assuming that it is a leaking seal. I advised the front desk at checkout. I also received a brownie drizzled with peanuts and raspberry jam as a welcome gift in addition to the bonus points. The towels were surprisingly luxurious, for a down scale property, and labeled with SPG.

Breakfast was a fairly standard buffet and did not change between the two mornings. It was adequate, although I don’t understand why in a country like Peru, the juice isn’t fresh.

After staying here, if I ever return to Peru, I’d stay here again over JW. I did stop in JW for a drink at the bar. At least at the bar and lobby restaurant, the property must be very proud of its drinks and food given the prices.

My only other thought is that if you want to see the historic area of Lima, Sheraton may be a better choice given the traffic in Lima. Speaking of traffic, the airport ride was 55 minutes Friday night and 40 minutes Sunday morning. I used Taxidatum to book a ride to/from the airport at a fixed cost of $18 USD/60 Soles; driver had a sign with my name.

I would look at the AC Hotel as it is just down the street from the JW, slightly closer to the ocean and has ocean views, easy walk down to the mall for food, and very close to Barranco for nightlife and restaurants. Platinum breakfast in their restaurant and has a decent small rooftop restaurant.

Finished a 2 night stay here at at the start of our Peru vacation. Did not need anything too fancy to get settled in briefly and the reviews have been positive so gave it a shot, especially for the price point. We landed very early and arrived at the hotel around 08:30-09:00 a.m. A small 30 minute wait and we were given our key to the upgraded corner room. We were extremely happy! If there was anything I was hoping from this hotel, it was the early check-in and they delivered! Everything else was a bonus.
Initial impressions and throughout the stay the hotel is very clean and comfortable for one in this category. Room, well I guess more so the bathroom is not large and not so sure this would be the place for a long term stay but it offered and provided everything we needed for the two days. Never have big expectations for breakfast and they had everything we needed with made or order eggs if you so desire. We spent the first evening on the patio of the restaurant and had some cocktails and ordered a bite to eat. It was not busy and food actually was very good! We were impressed. Service was a hit and miss but nothing that was negative.............and then we crashed as it was an early night for us.
The area is safe and has EVERYTHING you need around it. We went for a good long walk the next day around the entire area and stopped many times at local department store, convenience stores, parks and then stopped for lunch. There are so many parks in this city it is not even funny and gorgeous to boot! Restaurants everywhere also.
Nothing at all wrong with this hotel for a shorter stay - Clean, friendly service, good food in the restaurant and in a great location! Kudos to the Aloft team and keeping this hotel above the normal Aloft standards! (and I will say the bed was much more comfortable than the bed at the JW where we ended our vacation!)

Was JW worth 2.5 times the price? I plan to make a 5-night trip to Lima later this summer/Fall and am debating staying just at Aloft or splitting it between Aloft/JW. I get that JW has a lounge, etc., but I'm not sure if I want to stay at a hotel a lot and rely on the hotel's food offers over (likely) amazing nearby restaurant food.

That is a tough question........If you could really care less about the lounge then there would be no reason to pay the price of the JW. I am mostly interested in the breakfast amenity and if you want to explore all the restaurants there are many other Marriott options for sure. If you are solo then I would go with the Aloft in a heartbeat. The AC looks decent and has many good reviews - I don't think you get breakfast though?
I have a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth because I had a horrible bed at the JW - not sure if it was just a "one off room with a crappy bed" but I had the worst sleeps and sweated like crazy in their bed (unusual for myself)?? All three of these being the Aloft, Fairfield and Courtyard have great reviews and look very clean.. We walked by all of them and they all look like they are kept up very well. I would probably gear towards the Aloft or Courtyard as the Fairfield rooms are really "plain Jane"? I found the Aloft in a great location, comfortable bed, decent breakfast and clean as a whistle!...and of course the price point helps too when paying with your own dime.

Thank you for the detailed response. Usually, I love spending time at lounges, but I feel that whenever you go abroad, you'd want to try local restaurants for a more "genuine" experience. Unless a lounge offers a similar experience and is substantially cost-effective.
