How will my Eligible Status Years for 2022 be applied to my Account and when?

If you maintained the same Elite status in 2022 that you started with in 2022 , your 2022 Eligible Status Year for your current status will be applied to your Account in January 2023.

If you achieved a higher Elite status during 2022, your 2022 Eligible Status Year for the new, higher tier was applied at the time of achievement.

If you did not meet the published criteria to renew your current status in 2022, your 2022 Eligible Status Year for your current status will be added in January 2023, and your Eligible Status Year for your new status will be added in March 2023 when your Elite status is updated.

===

When will my 2021 qualifying year of Elite status be applied to my Account so I can track my path to Lifetime Elite Status?

As part of our regular process, Members receive their qualifying year towards Lifetime Elite status in one of two ways:
  1. If you maintain the same Elite level that you started the year with, your Qualifying Year of Elite status will be applied to your Account in January of the following year. Please Note: In November 2021, when we extended the Elite status that Members earned in 2019 or 2020, Members received their 2021 Qualifying Year of Elite status.
  2. If you achieve a higher Elite level during the year than the previous year, your Qualifying Year for the new, higher level will be applied at the time of achievement. Please Note: If you achieved a higher Elite level during 2021, your 2021 qualifying year of Elite status, was applied at the time of achievement.

If you maintain the same Elite level for 2022, your 2022 year of Elite status will be applied to your Account in January 2023. If you achieve a higher Elite level during 2022, your 2022 year of tenure for the new, higher level will be applied at the time of achievement.

Examples:
  • A Member achieved Gold Elite in 2019 and enjoyed the status in 2020. They received their 2020 year of Gold Elite status in July 2020 when we extended their status. Due to status extensions, the Member received their 2021 year of tenure in November 2021 when they their status was extended to February 2023.
  • A Member achieved Platinum Elite in 2020 and enjoyed the status in 2021. They received their 2021 year of Platinum status in November 2021 when they their status was extended to February 2023.
  • A Gold Elite Member achieved Platinum Elite in April 2021; the Platinum year of Elite status for 2021 was applied upon achievement (in April 2021).

I'm beyond confused with the annual choice benefit once hitting 50 nights. I hit 50 nights last year, and in Jan/Feb of THIS YEAR, I selected 5 elite nights as my benefit. Bonvoy is telling me that selection was for 2018 and not 2019. I thought I was selecting the benefit for 2019 - having already hit 50 nights in 2018!

Got an email: "The five bonus Elite Nights will count towards the year the Elite Nights were earned regardless of when the Member Selects them as their Annual Choice Benefit."

Am I wrong here?

Yes, you are wrong. This is covered extensively in this thread.

2018 Years Yet to Increment and No Response from Marriott - Lurker, please help

Hi William,

I hate bothering you, but am at wit's end w/ Marriott.

Entering Jan 1, of 2018 (last year), I had 5 years of 50+ nights w/ Marriott and 3 years of 50+ w/ Starwood. I qualified for an additional year on each account in 2018 staying 50+ nights at each Marriott and Starwood. As of Dec 1, 2018, my nights were accurate. I called on Dec 8th, prior to combining my two accounts to validate my information. Was informed that the yearly increments would happen in 2019 and to combine accounts). I combined my accounts and my total years of 50+ nights correctly show as 8.

4 months later, and I'm still stuck on 8. My years have yet to increment and I've opened up multiple support cases and other than receiving a reply saying my case has been escalated, no one has reached back out to confirm anything officially. Last case number was with "operations" and that was a bit over a week ago with zero response.

At the bare minimum, still incorrect, but bare minimum, I would expect my 50+ years to increment to 9 (although as has been mentioned on this board, since I qualified individually on each program, it should be 10; not guaranteed, but should be). This is holding up my lifetime titanium update and the further away from Dec 31, 2018, the less likely I feel this will get handled appropriately.

Why am I stuck on 8 and why won't anyone confirm what the issue is? Can you please help on your end (I can share case numbers with you privately)?

I've long held that, likely due to scripts poorly written by those with an incomplete understanding of the intended business outcomes, the years counter that went up in Aug '18 already incorporated any status currently held at that time. Thus, if one already held Plat (based on 2017 activity) in one or both programs, no amount of additional pre-Dec 31 activity will be incrementing years counters (unless said activity actually increased status in 2018 from, say, Gold to Plat).

I know that I personally crossed a Plat threshold in one of the programs following Aug account merging, yet to this day my year counter has never budged. And I don't expect that it will because I already held Plat in both SPG and MR as of the time the years counter went up, so 2018 was already reflected in the total.

I fully realize that this theory, if true, means that some folks got a bonus (those who held but did not re-earn Plat status in 2018 got a bonus year counted for the purposes of LTTE evaluation), whereas other folks got the shaft (such as anyone who purposely undertook additional stays in an effort to reach that tenth year that, unbeknownst to them had already been counted). I hope this theory is ultimately proven incorrect, but it would explain why pretty much no one posting here has reported a 2018 bump, yet Marriott's position is that those books have already closed. And it further helps to explain the significant number of FTers who reported that their own years counter seemed skewed high as of Aug '18.

Of course years counting has been deemed proprietary, so this or any other theory will likely never be either proved or disproved...
This goes back to how Starriott/Bonvoy views the way that elite years are counted as being propriety information. Moreover, we can only see the total counts for lifetime status at various levels (on SPG, MR or combined Bonvoy accounts, without any listing of how particular individual years have been counted). Doing it this way makes it very difficult for anyone to verify/challenge/correct their elite years count.

As of now Lifetime Titanium is discontinued, it was achievable before Dec 31 2018 by having 10 years of 50+ nights in either program and 750 total lifetime nights (or by having qualified for old Marriott Rewards Lifetime Platinum). It would be up to Marriott whether they might reopen it for new qualifications at some point in the future, who knows. If it were reopened, I wouldn't be surprised if it had higher qualification requirements.

Accordingly, I am migrating like stays to Marriott. More than just being wooed by a token economy, I see in the not too distant future work travel tapering off and only being “somebody” due to either legacy status or credit card spending: I can spend for Hilton and rest on my laurels for Bonvoy. And while I mislike Bonvoy’s back office and tech, I trust that they will, at some point, get their act together.
With 15+ years as Diamond are you still in a position that you feel LTD is not attainable? Seems like you should be very close

Likely. And I'd expect it on the next economic downturn.
It's just another carrot for us to chase.

My vote is for "unlikely." The only reason it was even offered originally was to accommodate the legacy Marriott Platinums. Then it got gummed up trying to shoehorn-in the long-time SPG elites.

I crossed 50 nights last week but my platinum lifetime years did not increase. Not so much a problem for me but seems like it’s either delayed or not happening after one reaches lifetime already.

Did you already have 50 night last year? I.E. Were you already platinum this year? If so, I would not expect the count to change until 12/31 - 1/1.
