When will my 2021 qualifying year of Elite status be applied to my Account so I can track my path to Lifetime Elite Status?
As part of our regular process, Members receive their qualifying year towards Lifetime Elite status in one of two ways:
- If you maintain the same Elite level that you started the year with, your Qualifying Year of Elite status will be applied to your Account in January of the following year. Please Note: In November 2021, when we extended the Elite status that Members earned in 2019 or 2020, Members received their 2021 Qualifying Year of Elite status.
- If you achieve a higher Elite level during the year than the previous year, your Qualifying Year for the new, higher level will be applied at the time of achievement. Please Note: If you achieved a higher Elite level during 2021, your 2021 qualifying year of Elite status, was applied at the time of achievement.
If you maintain the same Elite level for 2022, your 2022 year of Elite status will be applied to your Account in January 2023. If you achieve a higher Elite level during 2022, your 2022 year of tenure for the new, higher level will be applied at the time of achievement.
Examples:
- A Member achieved Gold Elite in 2019 and enjoyed the status in 2020. They received their 2020 year of Gold Elite status in July 2020 when we extended their status. Due to status extensions, the Member received their 2021 year of tenure in November 2021 when they their status was extended to February 2023.
- A Member achieved Platinum Elite in 2020 and enjoyed the status in 2021. They received their 2021 year of Platinum status in November 2021 when they their status was extended to February 2023.
- A Gold Elite Member achieved Platinum Elite in April 2021; the Platinum year of Elite status for 2021 was applied upon achievement (in April 2021).

Is it actually an acknowledgement? It says the status earned in 2021 will be reflected...but nothing about issues with prior years (not) showing up in the count.

Right - Marriott was brilliant enough to design the program so that your stats would have been correct if you only made it to Platinum in 2020. You made a rookie mistake there.

We all have much better insight now why it is so unlikely that Marriott will ever re-institute qualification for lifetime Titanium Elite status.

Even if they would just add a LTT threshold with a increased number of nights it is most likely too much for MAR IT to handle...

I stayed more than 75 nights during 2019; therefore, my lifetime year was changed to 8 from 7 on March 8, 2020. During the year 2020, I stayed more than 75-nights. Therefore, my lifetime year should have been 9-years; however, I have been stuck on 8-year since March 8, 2020.
I contacted the Marriott via email, and the representative said my plat year was 6 as of 12/31/2018. Therefore, the current lifetime year is correct.
This is totally wrong. As we know, the lifetime year counter updates every February or Mach of each year. Therefore, the 6-year as of 12/31/2018 did not include my status from 1/1/2018 to 12/31/2018. It only reflected the status until 12/31/2017.

If we were to go by the current way of reporting, if you attained in 2018 at a higher status than your 2017 status, your 12/31/2018 status years are correct. So 2018 you are at 6, 2019 you are at 7, and 2020 you are at 8, so you are waiting for your 2021 credit which by reports will credit in 2022 IF you do not attain a higher status than you were in the previous year. If you attain ambassador this year, your lifetime MAY tick up prior to next year per the reports which will bring you up to 9 years. That appears to be the Marriott logic and way of calculating.

I don't care any more. I'm not doing (m)any more stays this year as I'm at 87 nights including all the freebies and I'm pretty much staycationed out (compelling though the additional 1500 points a stay offered by the new promo obviously is).
Next year is another year and we will see what it brings in terms of (a) whether 2021's qualifying year gets added to the lifetime Platinum count; and (b) whether any travel from HK is doable in practice and hence a meaningful number of qualifying nights can be accrued for cash or points. I hold my breath for neither.

I submitted a request in July (after two prior requests, including one over a year ago), followed up in August (and was told I needed to wait 30 days), finally today I received the following response:
We sincerely regret your disappointment with the outcome of our research regarding your Lifetime years. For the integrity of the program, it is important that we remain transparent, fair and equitable to all our members. Please rest assured your account has gone through a thorough and extensive review by our technical team. They have verified there are no missing qualifying years in your account. We understand the importance of your qualifying Lifetime years and appreciate your patience as we reviewed your account.
The e-mail was signed by someone in the "Office of Consumer Affairs." Most interesting was that the signature's filename was "lifetimesig.jpg". In other words, they have a separate department just for these canned responses.
