Elite Credit for Design Hotels Booked through FHR?

Hi,

I booked a night at the Hotel Proverbs Taipei from FHR. I wonder if I could add my SPG/Marriott number at check-in and earn elite credit.

Also, will it be eligible for the $300 hotel credit from the Amex SPG Luxury Card?

Thank you!

Best,
Kai

I'm assuming no since the only way to get credit is through the Marriott Reservation Channel per the FAQ but I do not have any experience trying to book through FHR and getting credit -

The $300 credit is no problem. When booking FHR you can select your SPG card instead of the Plat card. RCs booked through FHR have always credited just fine to MR. Since Marriott is using the MR platform moving forward one would assume that Design hotels work the same way ... but I haven't tried that yet.

FHR rate is an eligible rate.

Whether you'll receive credit is a different question. Between IT failures and Marriott changing the rules, there is very little certainty in this program right now.

Design hotels are only affiliates and have different booking channels which are independent from Marriott.

I will not be surprised if FHR uses a platform for those hotels that is independent from the Marriott one (such as the design hotels own booking platform) and therefore it would not be an eligible nights.

I think my opinion, FWIW, would fall into this category. I don't believe that FHR is going to be recognized as an official Marriott Reservation Channel.

But, I don't think the credit card credit is going to be an issue unless the hotel doesn't show up on AMEX's end as being a Marriott-affiliated property.

My experience in booking Design hotels is that when you do it on the SPG website, you only see standard rates without breakfast, but if you book on the hotel's own website or the Design Hotels website, there are additional rate plans that include breakfast and might include some discounts. However, when booking through SPG, it always looked exactly like any other SPG reservation except that there wasn't a SNA option.

I've never tried FHR with Design Hotels, but I have gotten points and elite nights for FHR bookings on SPG, MR (for RC stays, although there could be a few Marriotts, maybe JWs, that also participate in FHR), Hyatt, Raffles, etc. However, I can see the concern that FHR might look like a booking through the Design Hotels own reservation system rather than through Starwood.

Hi Kai,

I'm wondering how this worked out for you? I've booked the Hotel Proverbs through FHR as well not thinking about the fact I might not earn elite night credit for the booking, did you receive elite night credit in the end?

I'm inclined to think it wouldn't be possible either since I tried creating a FHR booking at this property, but the vendor confirmation number could not be found on the Marriott system when trying to add it to my trips (not the case when creating FHR reservations with other Marriott/SPG brands). This suggests that the reservation is created on a channel independent of Marriott/Design Hotels.

Would be pleasantly surprised if anyone reports otherwise though!

Anyone tried and what's the outcome?
the 100usd credit is quite worth it especially this hotel has one of the better bars in Taipei.

I wouldn't expect that FHR booking of a Design Hotel will qualify for elite credits unless the FHR books through the Marriott booking system. I doubt that's true, since the Design Hotels all have their own systems and the Design system for bookings. I am betting that FHR uses the latter options.
